Action Needed No Internet [Ethernet & WiFi]: Fixed Get your network working properly once more within minutes

The network prompting you that

is needed on your

is not an

error message

Instead, it’s there to secure you from connecting to strange networks.

You can disable the WiFi

needed  prompt permanently either from the

or Local

Group Policy

The solutions below work for both Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices.

The action needed no internet error is not caused by a bug, it’s intentional. In this article, we are going to tell you all about what it means and how to fix it.

This issue is prominent on newly-upgraded Windows 10 computers. You can also experience it the first time you attempt to connect to a new WiFi connection.

Note that this problem is not a WiFi adapter issue. Read this guide to the end to discover two ways to disable the Action needed WiFi prompt in Windows.

What does Action Needed mean?

The Action needed message is your computer’s way of informing you that it’s connecting to the network. The notification is self-explanatory – it adds that you can go ahead and connect if you know the WiFi network.

If multiple WiFi networks have the same name (likely a malicious person luring you to connect), this notification also warns you before you connect to the other network.

Knowing that this prompt doesn’t originate from an error but merely for your information, you can safely disable it, as it could get inconvenient.

Why does my Ethernet/ WIFI say action needed?

Windows uses the NLA (Network Location Awareness) service to detect a network’s properties and find out the most suitable ways to handle its connections. The NLA relies on another component called NCSI (Network Connectivity Status Indicator).

The NCSI delivers feedback on the connection status of devices on the network. If your WiFi says action needed Windows 10, then it means that changes have been made to the network.

How can I fix the action needed no internet issue?

Expert tip:

In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to disable the NCSI using the Windows Registry Editor as well as the Group Policy Editor, among other fixes.

1. Disable the NCSI probe from Windows Registry

NOTE: To navigate to the locations in the guide, simply copy the given path, paste it in the address bar, and hit ENTER.

2. Disable NCSI problem from Group Policy Objects 2.1 Turn off Windows Network Connectivity Status Indicator active tests 2.2 Disable NCSI probes 3. Turn off Fast Startup

Another confirmed fix for this error is to disable the Fast Startup feature. We have dedicated guides on this that you can access right now:

4. Tweak the PC’s power settings

This is a solution that worked for users, as seen on forums:

How can I fix the Windows 11 WiFi action needed issue?

Although the guide above is for Windows 10, the same solutions can be safely applied on a Windows 11 device as well. The steps are mostly the same, and the problem will be solved just as fast.

We hope that the steps and methods described in this guide have managed to solve the action needed no internet Ethernet or WiFi problem once and for all.

Bmw Motorrad Vision Next 100 Motorcycle : No Helmet Needed

BMW Motorrad VISION NEXT 100 motorcycle : no helmet needed

Truth be told, concept cars these days are almost a dime a dozen, though some do manage to make our jaws drop once in a while. But a concept motor bike? Not exactly your standard fare. But at its “Iconic Impulses” exhibition in Los Angeles, that is exactly what BMW is showing off. Simply calling it by its name, the Motorrad VISION NEXT 100 doesn’t really do it justice. Whereas most concept vehicles look 5 or so years into the future, this motorcycle was designed with decades in mind. Almost ironically, it look more like a throwback to decades past.

BMW is celebrating its first centenary this year, so it is only fitting that it set its eyes to the next 100 years. Under the “Vision Next 100” slogan, the car maker has attempted to peer into the future farther than most concept designs go. Like 25 years into the future. And it has come up with rather intriguing concepts revealed in the BMW VISION NEXT 100 and its Rolls-Royce cousin.

Now it is doing the same for its BMW Motorrad brand of bikes.

And suffice it to say, it’s a curious blend of past and future.

BMW’s vision of the future involves a world where connectivity is so pervasive and ingrained in our culture that it has become second nature. Today, we still marvel at the new “smart” appliances and objects that are popping up left and right. In two decades or so, very few things will be “not smart”.

At the same time, BMW predicts that technology will become more human and more humane, and, like everyone’s dream, energy will be cleaner, emission-free in fact. Those characteristics are all found in the Motorrad VISION NEXT 100, but you won’t be able to tell by the way it looks.

Forget TRON-like, glowing bikes. The Motorrad of the future will look almost stark naked in comparison. Like any other futuristic technology or product, it needs a solid anchor to the past or present for humans to be able to relate to it. In this case, BMW reached far back to 1923, when the company launched its first ever motorcyle, the BMW R32.

The Motorrrad VISION NEXT 100 proudly exhibits BMW’s signature black frame triangle, except that now, no bearing or joints will be prominent. And, of course, the materials are from the present, not the past, with the seat, frame cover, and wings made of light but durable carbon. The entire design can be described as minimalist at best, but that is also most evident in the facade of the futuristic Motorrad.

But like the rest of the bike, every single detail was carefully designed for a purpose. For example, the two U-shaped elements above the front wheel’s metal reflector also acts at wind deflector for maximum aerodynamics.

Right at the heart of the triangle frame is also the heart of the Motorrad VISION NEXT 100. Another throwback to the past, the powertrain is inspired by BMW’s boxer engne design. However, looks are definitely deceiving, as this old-school engine is actually a zero-emission drive in disguise.

And almost like Transformers, the engine does change its appearance depending on the condition. When at rest, the engine is compact. In motion, it extends outwards, both for better air flow as well as for rider protection.

While arguably historic in its design, the Motorrad VISION NEXT 100 is truly a motorcycle of the somewhat distant future. And it’s not just because of the bike itself but because of everything else around it. In line with BMW’s future vision, everything is connected. That idea isn’t that new to today’s cars, but motor bikes have yet to see their day.

This Motorrad connects and communicates with a myriad of systems and information hubs that allows it to always be aware of what lies ahead, informing the rider of the action to be taken or, if the situation calls for it, take action itself.

Almost self-aware, the Motorrad is also self-balancing, in that it can automatically take on the right balance, especially when the rider, in case of novices, can’t judge by herself. It can even set itself upright after the rider has hopped off!

Communication between bike and rider happens not through panels on the bike, which is almost nonexistent, but through the rider’s gear. “Gear” is probably a misnomer, as these accessories are more like functional fashion wear than protective biking gear. For example, the visor, which is the main channel for information, is simply a pair of data glasses, which just also happens to provide wind protection by its very nature.

Control of the displays happens through eye movement tracking, with the system changing the information depending on which area the rider is looking at. The suit, though not as fancy, is nonetheless also hi-tech. Looking like traditional motorcycle clothing because of its diagonal chest zipper, it is anything but traditional, with a design reminiscent of video game armor. The suit is loaded with sensors that monitor the rider’s physiology. It also warms or cools the wearer depending on weather conditions. The neck section even inflates to support the neck when riding at high speeds. Navigation information is also conveyed by the suit through vibrations.

What is curious, perhaps also controversial, about this gear (riding gear, that is, clothing for the rider) is that they aren’t at all designed for the rider’s safety, aside from monitoring things like heart rate, pulse, and body temperature. There is no helmet.

While it may sound like BMW is throwing all caution to the wind, it is, in fact, relegating the safety features not on the rider’s gear but on the Motorrad’s design itself as well as the intelligent systems it offers.

BMW dubs its Motorrad VISION NEXT 100 as “The Great Escape”, precisely because of the feeling of freedom that most riders feel the moment they straddle the bike. And that freedom, in BMW’s mind, is really only possible when you have a bike that is smart enough to worry about safety so that you won’t have to. A bike that, while inspired by the past, isn’t weighed down by the limitations, nor the heavy protective gear, of the past.

Above you’ll find SlashGear’s photos captured at the BMW event where this bike was first revealed. Below is the first video presented by BMW to show this vehicle to the world.

Tunnelbear Not Working, No Internet Access

TunnelBear not working, no Internet access [Fixed]

Getting your VPN to work on your network involves performing some configurations.

TunnelBear connection issues can also be related to misconfiguration, among other things.

Having a non-functional VPN on your device could mean putting your privacy at risk.

Most IT administrators spend a fair amount of time performing troubleshooting on VPNs before successfully deploying a new one.

However, troubleshooting a VPN is similar to troubleshooting problems with your WAN connectivity, owing to its complex nature as data travels via multiple links before reaching its destination.

Something can go wrong at each link in the VPN connection, so knowing the problems and having troubleshooting procedures will help you debug the VPN connection.

Below are the troubleshooting scenarios plus their solutions, to help you when TunnelBear is connected but not working.

FIX: TunnelBear connected but not working 1. Unsuccessful deployment of TunnelBear VPN

At the very minimum, a VPN implementation comprises a RAS PPTP server and a client both of which are connected to the internet, and a PPTP connection in between server and client. If your ISP service or internet connection is available, you can connect to your server or LAN from wherever you want in the world.

The problem is that most VPNs aren’t that simple. More often than not, the VPN’s server is on a routed LAN segment, usually behind a firewall, and the client connection also uses the ISP network which has its own routers and firewalls.

The solution to this is to start with an NT server that has minimal number of installed services, and then limit the protocols to just two – TCP/IP and PPTP. You can also save time by updating your server with service packs before trying to troubleshoot the client connections. NT 4.0 Service Packs 5 (SP5) and SP6a will correct most PPTP connection problems including those related to fragmented packets, dropped and refused connections.

Tip: Keep the server configuration as simple and straightforward as you can for purposes of troubleshooting.

2. TunnelBear VPN connected but client cannot log on

You may also encounter a problem when TunnelBear is connected but the client cannot log on.

There are three possible causes for this:

Configuring domain and server accounts

This happens if your RAS server is configured as a domain controller or standalone system. If configured as a domain controller, ensure the user’s domain account has dial-in permission. If not a domain controller, RAS server authenticates the client’s credentials by default against the local SAM.

The standalone server can be authenticated either with a local account on the RAS server, or with an edit to the registry that forces it to authenticate credentials against the domain SAM. In both cases, you have to have dial-in permission for the account you supply.

This US-based company, owned by Kape Technologies, offers OpenVPN protocol support as well as PPTP/L2TP/SOCKS5 for improving compatibility with various networks and devices.

Having many more servers than TunnelBear, this VPN ensures that you will almost always have where to connect to and still get good Internet speeds.

Our top reasons to go with this solution are:

Latest and greatest protocols and technologies used

10 simultaneous devices can be connected with one subscription

VPN Kill-switch provided with the PIA client

Use their own private DNS servers

No-logs policy

Configuring computer accounts

If your computer is an NT server, it must have an account in the domain. If it is a new system, however, create the new account in Server Manager before testing the connection. If you already have an account but it has been disconnected, the password may not be synchronized with the server, because for every account, a hidden password is generated which the PDC resets automatically.

Therefore, if you’ve been offline for a while, the password may differ from the one on the PDC, but you can delete your account and re-add it to fix this problem.

Negotiating client authentication

A RAS server can use 3 authentication protocols to authenticate PPTP users: Password Authentication or PAP protocol, Challenge Handshake Authentication or CHAP, and Microsoft CHAP (MSCHAP). The authentication protocols that your computer and server negotiate for logon depend on the encryption settings selected when you configure the server’s incoming VPN ports, and the client PPTP connection network settings.

The options available on the server and client include allowing any authentication, requiring encrypted authentication, or requiring Microsoft encrypted authentication. For the latter, clients that don’t support MSCHAP V2 cannot log on successfully.

What you need to do is enable logon auditing in User Manager and try the connection again. This gives you a picture of what is hindering TunnelBear from working when you check the records in the NT Event Viewer’s Security log, like if the username is invalid, or password expired, or an invalid account and whether VPN ports are available.

3. Connected but cannot browse using LAN

If you’re using TunnelBear VPN and you managed to log on but cannot browse using LAN, first ensure you set the workgroup to target the NT domain name on all Win9x clients. It’s recommended that you understand how the four TCP/IP settings affect your network connection.

When you have users working from home with high connection speeds, browsing via LAN is a great option for remote users. Here’s how to troubleshoot browsing issues:

Check browsing

If you’re browsing and get error 53 from your system “the network path was not found” it means the client cannot resolve NetBIOS names. Ensure the WINS server has been assigned, either statically in PPT connection’s Network Settings, or dynamically using ipconfig for all clients or Winipcfg for Win9x clients. If you don’t have a WINS server address, enter it manually, then reconnect the VPN and try to browse again.

Set up the default gateway

Check the default gateway setting for the PPTP connection, and if it still points to your ISP, it means every client request to browse the LAN goes direct to your ISP rather than to TunnelBear VPN connection. Thus, the ISP may block ports required for NetBIOS name broadcasts.

Routers and firewalls can also prevent the transmission of NetBIOS names unless you enable unicast traffic on UDP ports 137 and 138, and TCP port 139. NetBIOS names are proprietary to Microsoft so some ISPs may not let such data flow through their infrastructure. Also check if your antivirus is blocking internet access.

You can manually delete the route and add a static route to the VPN server’s virtual interface – the address assigned to the VPN interface (it is also the first available DHCP address in your RAS server configuration).

Enable NetBEUI

You can install NetBEUI on the RAS server and remote clients to resolve browsing issues. This can be done for incoming connections on the server’s VPN ports, and select Net BEUI in the PPTP connection on the client. This connects the client to the server with NetBEUI over TCP/IP. This is the easiest way to get a fully browsable LAN.

If you still cannot browse, try connecting to a network share manually, or review TunnelBear VPN server configuration as many server problems affect browsing, however, the list of potential issues is too long to cover in this article.

4. Connected but cannot browse the internet

This problem happens in two scenarios: first, the VPN server may not let remote client’s access the internet when TunnelBear is connected, in which case, if you close the TunnelBear VPN connection, the client can browse because the default gateway reverts to the gateway specified by the ISP.

The second scenarios is that Windows may overwrite the ISP gateway with the VPN server-defined gateway when the client connects, so there’s no path to the internet. For this, you can manually add a static route to the ISP’s default gateway to resolve it, by trying the VPN’s gateway first, then the ISP gateway.

5. Connected but doesn’t appear in the Network Neighborhood

If you get this problem even with a fully functional TunnelBear VPN connection, configure your PPTP connection with TCP/IP only and connect, then authenticate to the VPN server. When the client expands Network Neighborhood, it shows itself and other clients in the list, but the remote system never appears in the Network Neighborhood on LAN. If you want remote clients to appear on the LAN browse list, install NetBEUI on the RAS server and RAS clients.

Google: No Fixed Time Frame For Ranking Changes After Site Improvements

Google’s John Mueller recently stated there’s no fixed time frame for search ranking changes after improvements have been made to a site.

When it comes to improving page speed in particular, Mueller says that’s a small ranking factor.

Google cares more about serving the most relevant content rather than serving the fastest pages.

This information was provided during a Google Webmaster Central hangout on February 5.

A site owner submitted the following question:

“We’re working on improving site speed. Do you know how long it might take for Google to notice these improvements?”

In response, Mueller explained there’s no fixed time frame when it comes to crawling pages and updating the ranking signals associated with those pages.

Sometimes it could take months and other times it could be a matter of days.

After making significant improvements to a site, webmasters will most likely see a gradual rise in rankings over a period of time.

Mueller adds that page speed is a small ranking factor. So if that’s the only improvement it’s difficult to determine how much of an impact it will make.

Site owners will see greater changes in search rankings when improvements are made to the overall quality of a website.

Hear the full question and answer in the video below, starting at the 24:20 mark.

“As with anything related to web search, it’s not something where there’s a fixed time frame involved. But rather we crawl and index pages over time. We update the signals we have for these pages over time.

There’s no fixed timeline. Some of these pages and signals get updated every day or even more frequently. Some of them take a little bit longer. Some of them take months to get updated.

What you’ll probably see here, if you make significant improvements to your website, then you’ll see over time this kind of gradual rise with regards to us taking those signals into account.

It might be a bit tricky when it comes to speed in the sense that speed is not the most important ranking factor.

We do look at things like content and try to figure out which of these pages are most relevant to users as well.

So if a site is really fast that doesn’t always mean that it’s ranking number one.

Theoretically an empty page would be the fastest page, but that doesn’t mean it would be a good result for users.

Speed is more of a smaller ranking factor.

So that’s something where you’d probably see bigger changes in your site’s visibility over time based on improvements in the quality and improvements in the website overall.

Speed is more like something small that would probably be hard to measure individually.”

Awesome New Electronics Can Dissolve And Disappear When They’re No Longer Needed

A new class of electronics can dissolve and disappear on a pre-set schedule, within a few minutes or a few years, depending on when you want them to go away. They could live in the body and deliver drugs, they could stick on the exterior of buildings or tanks, and they can become compost instead of metal scrap–in other words, they turn the common conception of electronics completely upside down.

Transient electronics, as they’ve been dubbed, are a combination of silk and silicon designed to work seamlessly in our bodies and in our environments. In a new study, researchers built a thermal device designed to monitor infection in a rodent and a 64-pixel digital camera–all from dissolvable material.

Suk-Won Hwang of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and several colleagues made circuits out of silkworm cocoons, superthin sheets of porous silicon, and electrodes made of magnesium. All these materials are biocompatible and because they’re extremely thin and soluble, they dissolve even in minute quantities of water. The silk is the main structural scaffold, and it determines the dissolution rate of the entire device. Biomedical engineer Fiorenzo Omenetto at Tufts University, a coauthor, figured out how to adjust the silk protein’s properties so it degrades at a wide range of intervals. The silk is dissolved and then re-crystallized, and by controlling the crystallization, the researchers can control the rate at which it dissolves again.

In a major test of the platform’s biocompatibility, the team engineered a silk biomedical implant in a mouse. The device was programmed to break down after a certain length of time in which it was exposed to bodily fluids, and then it was doped with an antibacterial compound. The team implanted it in an infected surgical site and after three weeks, the infection was reduced and small residual pieces of the implant could be detected. Here’s a list of other items they’ve built so far: transient transistors; diodes; wireless power coils; temperature and strain sensors; photodetectors; solar cells; radio oscillators and antennas; and digital cameras. There is a huge array of possible uses for this technology, which is partly funded by DARPA.

Even when they’re likely to be obsolete the moment you buy them, modern electronics are built to last. When they’re no longer needed, they pile up in our houses, recycling centers or landfills. Transient electronics could be a solution–a device can be programmed to last a few years, and then completely dissolve when it’s rendered obsolete. The research appears in this week’s issue of Science.

Top Fixed Costs Examples and Calculation Solution

The following list will identify and describe different costs to help you clarify a fixed cost.

Example – 1

Following are some of the different types of Fixed Costs that the business enterprise has to incur:

Lease on Office Space: Unless & until the business operates in the same building, the rent doesn’t change. It will be a radical cost.

Utility Bills: Utility bills like electricity might vary per season but will not be affected by the business level.

Website Hosting Costs: Monthly charges must be paid on registering the business website domain, which remains static irrespective of the business level.

Property Tax: The property tax paid in respect of the office premises is as per the value of the property and not based on the scale of business.

Interest Expenses: This is the cost of funds a lender funds to a business. The amount of interest will be based on the outstanding loan amount and not on the production or business level.

Insurance: As per the initial agreement, you must pay this cost once a year, regardless of your business level.

Amortization / Depreciation: These gradually charge the expense of intangible/tangible assets over their useful life. Its value depends on the valuable life of an asset.

Salaries: Employers pay employees based on the initial offer, regardless of the hours they have worked.

Example – 2

Calculation of Fixed Cost

Mr. X started the bakery shop one year ago. During the last year, his business was working very nicely. But last month, two new competitors also started the same line of business in the same locality, which led to a decrease in the sale of bakery shop Mr. X, and it is expected that in the coming year, sales will decrease further. He has to incur the losses if he continues the operations. Seeing this, Mr. X is worried about whether it would be feasible to continue the business. During the month of January, it incurred some of the costs which are given below. Mr. X wants to know how much he spends against the fixed cost to analyze whether to continue the business.

Paid the rent for the whole year, amounting to $12,000.

Paid the cost of raw materials required for a bakery in the month of January, amounting to $2,000.

The cost of labor based on the number of hours for preparing the finished goods is $600.

The company paid $3,600 for insurance expenses for the whole year in the month of January.

Calculate the fixed cost for the month of January.

Fixed cost = Monthly Rent + Monthly Electricity Expense + Insurance Expense

Fixed Cost = $1,000 + $300 + $300

Fixed Cost = $1,900

When deciding to continue business operations, the owner should exclude fixed costs they have already paid. The decision-making process should not factor in these costs.

Raw material changes with the production level, so this will not be considered a fixed cost and will be part of the variable cost.

The number of hours worked directly affects the labor cost, making it a variable cost rather than a fixed cost.

You prepay the insurance expense for the entire year, which remains fixed, making it a part of fixed costs. In the present case, the Insurance expense for the whole year is $3,600. So, for one month, Insurance expenses will be $300 ($3,600 / 12).

Example – 3

The company’s short-run cost function expresses the total cost (C) as 210 plus 51 times the quantity of output (Q). Next, calculate the fixed cost of the company.

The short-run cost function C = 210 + 51Q represents the fixed cost of production with the number 210. This indicates that the quantity of output does not affect the fixed cost, and it remains constant regardless of the amount produced. So, in the present case fixed cost is 210 (unit of money).

Also, using the formula for calculating costs given by TC = FC + VC (Q), where FC is the fixed costs, it can be concluded that the fixed cost is 210 in the equation.

Even at zero levels of production or business level, you must incur the fixed cost because it is a committed cost. This concludes that if a business has a higher fixed cost, its profit margin will get squeezed when sales fall. The higher the fixed, the higher its breakeven quantity will be, meaning it has to sell many products to achieve a breakeven point: no profit or loss situation. Therefore, breakeven with a relatively high variable cost can estimate its per-unit profit margin more accurately. At the same time, a business model with a higher amount of fixed cost discourages the new entrant.
