Yes, you can play Genshin Impact on the Steam Deck, but it will require a few extra steps. The game is not officially available on Steam, and the only ways to install it on a PC are via the Epic Games Store or the official launcher. To play on the Steam Deck, the best method is the latter.

We’ve outlined the steps below, but before we get into that it’s worth pointing out that Genshin Impact is not Deck-verified and you may run into issues. For instance, when version 3.6 of the game launched, it was unable to update on the Steam Deck, meaning you couldn’t play the game. For online games like Genshin Impact, there is no way to play on previous patches, or offline for that matter.

Running Genshin Impact in Proton Experimental mode works fine for now, but it may not work forever. This is not a simple process either, so you’ll need to be somewhat comfortable tinkering with your Steam Deck. That’s sort of what the Steam Deck is all about, so if you’ve made it this far you should be good.

You should also know that Genshin Impact takes up a lot of space on your hard drive. With high-quality textures and thousands of voice lines, it has ballooned to well over 100GB. Even if you have one of the two premium Steam Decks with more storage, you still may want to install it to an SD card.

How to play Genshin Impact on the Steam Deck

Switch to Steam OS desktop mode and open your browser.

Navigate to the official Genshin Impact website and download the PC client.

Open Steam and navigate to your Steam Library.

Hit Add Game, then select Add a Non-Steam Game.

Hit Add Selected Programs and it will add the .exe file to your Steam Library.

Select the Genshin Impact installer in your Steam Library, hit the gear on the right-hand side, then select Properties.

Switch to the Compatibility tab, tick the option for Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool, then select Proton Experimental from the drop-down menu.

Run through the Genshin Impact install process, which will also install Visual C++.

If required, change the Path to your SD card if you are running out of space.

This process can take well over an hour, so be patient. Once finished it may fail to verify your files, but you can do this later, so don’t worry. Just close the program.

At this point, Genshin Impact has been installed on your Steam Deck, but you’ll need to run through another process to get it to show up and run from your Steam Library. What is currently there is just the installer, so now you need to add the game launcher. Here’s how to do that:

Now open a file browser to find the Genshin Impact launcher. You will need to show hidden files via the three lines at the top right.

From your Steam Library, hit Add a Game at the bottom, then Add a Non-Steam Game.

As before, you’ll need to set up compatibility, so select chúng tôi from your library, hit the gear icon to the right, then open Properties.

While it’s open, change the Shortcut name to Genshin Impact to make it easier to find in your Library.

Then, switch to the Compatibility tab, tick the option for Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool, then select Proton Experimental from the drop-down menu.

Hit Play and finish setting up the game. If you run into any problems, make sure the Installation Location is correct by hitting the three lines next to Download. This process can take upwards of half an hour.

Once finished, open the game again and make sure that the login screen is displayed. You can now exit the game and switch your Steam Deck back into Game mode and relaunch it.

And you now have Genshin Impact in your Steam Library ready to play! You may want to adjust settings to get the best performance, as the Steam Deck isn’t quite capable of hitting a stable 60fps. Low settings capped at 45fps should be stable, and if you’re used to playing on mobile you won’t notice the difference.

Thankfully, there are quite a few great options available from the community, meaning that you won’t have to go through and assign all of the various actions to specific buttons yourself.

After you have returned to Gaming Mode, press the Steam button on the right side of your Steam Deck.

Scroll down and select Library.

Use the R1 button and navigate until the Non-Steam header is highlighted.

Go through the list of options to see which layout you think would work best for your needs.

How To Change Graphics Settings On Steam Deck

The Steam Deck offers a robust and versatile gaming experience right at your fingertips. However, to optimize your gaming and ensure the best possible performance, you might need to tweak your Steam Deck’s graphics settings. This guide will provide an in-depth look at how you can alter these settings to meet your specific needs and preferences, enhancing both gameplay and battery life.

Do You Need to Change Graphics Settings?

Like any gaming device, the performance of games on the Steam Deck will depend on their system requirements. While the device’s custom APU (a combination of a CPU and GPU), developed by AMD, is expected to handle most games well, there might be instances where adjusting the graphics settings could improve performance or battery life.

If a game is not running as smoothly as you’d like, or if you want to extend battery life, you could consider lowering some graphics settings, such as the resolution, frame rate, or details like texture quality and shadows. The Steam Deck’s 7-inch screen has a resolution of 1280×800 pixels, so running games at this resolution, rather than a higher one, should be sufficient for most users.

Valve is also integrating a feature in SteamOS that will allow players to set game-specific settings, which means you could adjust the graphics settings for each game individually based on its performance.

How to Change Graphics Settings on Steam Deck

The Steam Deck is designed to run AAA games natively, and Valve has indicated that it’s optimizing the SteamOS interface and the Proton compatibility layer to ensure games run smoothly on the device. But you’ll need to keep in mind that changing graphics settings may influence your device’s performance and battery life. Higher settings typically provide more visual detail but may also require more processing power and reduce battery life. It’s all about finding the balance that works best for your individual gaming style and demands.

Enable Performance Overlay on Steam Deck

If you’re just wanting to get a baseline to see how well your Steam Deck is running or performing, you can do so by enabling the Performance Overlay. There aren’t any extra apps that you need to download, as this is just built into SteamOS itself.

Turn on your Steam Deck.

Press the Options button on the right side below the trackpad.

Scroll down and select the Battery icon.

Slide the toggle to the right until you reach the overlay that you prefer. There are four different options to choose from.

Customize Performance For Games

There are a couple of ways that you can change the graphics settings on Steam Deck, with the first being designed for any and all Steam games that you download and play. This means that whether you’re playing a AAA title or firing up a retro emulator, it will use the same performance profile. While this might be great in some cases, it’s really not necessary for those games that aren’t as demanding.

Turn on your Steam Deck.

Open and start the game that you want to customize.

Press the Options button on the right side below the trackpad.

Scroll down until you reach the Performance Settings section.

Enable Per-Game Profile For More Customization

One feature that you might want to enable if you want to change graphics settings on Steam Deck is the “Per-Game Profile”. Enabling this means that you can create and use a different performance profile based on the game that you are playing. This can come in extremely handy if you’re playing an Indie game that doesn’t require much power, so you want to turn things down a notch (or two) in order to squeeze more battery life out of your Steam Deck.

Turn on your Steam Deck.

Open and start the game that you want to customize.

Press the Options button on the right side below the trackpad.

Scroll down until you see the Using default profile section.

Press the Options button to save your changes.

Change Graphics Settings on Steam Deck In-game

Apart from resolution and framerate, there are additional graphic settings that you can adjust to fine-tune your gaming experience. These include texture quality, shadow quality, and anti-aliasing, among others. Depending on the game, you might need to adjust these settings within the game’s own menu rather than from the Steam Deck’s system settings. Refer to the specific game’s user manual or help menu for more information on how to access these settings.

Adjusting your Steam Deck’s graphics settings allows you to find the perfect balance between visual detail and performance. With the right tweaks, you can make the most out of your device and fully enjoy your gaming experience, whether you favor crisp, high-resolution visuals or smoother gameplay.

The Steam client received a major updatewhere it introduced a new feature called Remote Play Together, which is designed to allow users to play local multiplayer games on Steam over the internet.

The feature has passed through the beta stage and is now live on the Steam client.

How do I play local multiplayer on Steam?

You will need to update the Steam client to the latest version, as Remote Play Together is now out of Beta. This means that to play local multiplayer games on Steam over the internet, you and your friends will need the latest update to the client.

Keep in mind that only certain games support this feature. That being said, the list is thousands of titles long and more are being added, so you will have a wide selection to choose from.

If you want to see the complete list of local multiplayer titles available on Steam, check out the Steam Store page.

Steam not connecting to the server? Don’t worry, we have you covered.

How does Remote Play Together work?

Once you start a Steam Remote Play session on your PC and invite friends to join a game, all the game activity is captured on your PC and sent to the other player‘s computers.

The other players will then see the image of the game, as well as the UI input, similar to an interactive streaming session. Voice and chat will also work just like in any normal game session.

Remote Play acts as a form of streaming, where one player hosts the game on their PC and projects it on the screens of everyone else. Everyone else will see the image and control the game as if they had it.

Additionally, Remote Play also allows users with low-end PCs to enjoy otherwise resource-intensive titles.

What do I need to host a Remote Play session?

For a proper streaming experience, UDP ports 27031 and 27036, and the TCP ports 27036 and 27037 need to be open. The Steam client needs to listen to these ports in the firewall of the PC, as well as the router or modem.

It goes without saying that since you will be running a game not only for yourself but others as well, that your PC needs to have no problem running multiple sessions of a given game.

Additionally, since you’ll be streaming all of your content, a wired Internet connection is preferred. Steam also recommends that clients should have a GPU that supports hardware-accelerated H264 encoding.

Genshin Impact Server Time: What Is It For You And What Does It Mean?

It won’t be surprising if you’re spending more time as a traveler on the magical island of Teyvat and less time in reality. Ever since Genshin Impact made its debut in September-end, this free-to-play RPG has become the next big thing in the realm of gaming and its servers are busy catering to millions of travelers ever since the game launched.

Besides some of the most fantastic settings and sceneries that will take you on a Breath of the Wild Clone trip (something that Zelda fans understandably took major offense to) and keep you coming back for more, the game is set around a premise of constant and regular character upgrades that are heavily dictated by time. To be more specific, server time. Let’s understand what Server Time is and what it means for you as a player in Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact Server: What is it?

You may have noticed that the moment you launch the Genshin Impact, you will be asked to select a server through which to join. Since millions of players across the world are playing Genshin Impact the devs have set up servers across different regions to manage this load. Currently, there are three servers that range across America, Europe, and of course, Asia. As a traveler, you need to choose the server that’s located closest to your own location.

What is server time in Genshin Impact?

There is a particular time in the day when the Genshin Impact servers go through a reset. So at 4 AM in real-time, the game servers reset themselves. However, this time will vary depending on which server you are on because of the difference in time zones.

So if you are on the American server, the difference between the server reset times and your own time zone is UTC-5. This means that the server resets itself at 5 AM as per the Eastern US Time and 2 AM as per the Pacific US Time.

If you are on the European server which is running on UTC+1, then the server resets itself at 10 PM of the previous night for Eastern US Time and 7 PM of the previous night for those in the Pacific US Time zone.

Finally, on the Asian server which is set at UTC +8, the servers are reset at 4 PM of the previous day for Easter US Time and at 1 PM of the previous day on US Pacific time.

The Server reset time won’t affect your progress in the game as it is not affected by the real-time date and time. There are other aspects of the game though, like daily commission quests, store inventory, resin, etc that adhere to a game-specific calendar and are updated when the server is reset. So knowing when the server (especially if you’re on a server that’s in a different time zone) is reset will give you an idea of when you can play new quests and access to even freebies if you’re looking forward to those.

Is it the same as Daily Reset Time?

Yes, Server time is the same as Daily Reset Time. This activity happens every day to ensure that players can come back to fresh activities and content.

We hope this article solved any confusion you might have regarding Server Time. Happy gaming! Take care and stay safe.
