Music Creation tools can be useful if you’re making music on your MacBook, but some users just want to delete Music Creation from their MacBook and free up some space.

Deleting this music tool isn’t as hard as you think, and in this article, we’ll show you how to do it.

How can I delete Music Creation on Mac? 1. Remove everything related to GarageBand

GarageBand will install all sorts of instruments and other tools that can help you while creating music. However, these tools tend to take up a lot of space.

If you’re not into music production and you don’t even use GarageBand, there’s no reason to keep these tools, so it might be best to remove it.

According to users, one way to get rid of Music Creation is to check your storage settings. To do that, follow the above steps.

If space is still taken, you can fix the problem by doing the following:

Open Finder and search for GarageBand.

Delete all files related to GarageBand from This Mac and the Library.

Search for Apple Loops and delete all files related to it from This Mac and the Library.

Here’s the list of files and folders that you need to remove, but if you find more related files or directories, be sure to remove them:

chúng tôi

/Library/Application Support/GarageBand

/Library/Application Support/Logic

/Library/Audio/Apple Loops

/Library/Audio

~/Library/Application Support/Garageband

~/Library/Application Support/Audio

A few users reported that the option to remove Garage Band isn’t available for them. To fix that, reinstall GarageBand from the App Store and repeat the steps from this solution.

Users are also suggesting removing all items from the Music Creation section such as Instrument Library, Basic Lessons, Apple Loops, etc.

2. Use a dedicated uninstaller tool

We use multiple applications every day, and in order to achieve maximum productivity, sometimes it’s necessary to split the screen in two and have both applications running side by side. MacBooks support this feature, and in today’s article, we’ll show you how to split the MacBook screen.

How can I split the screen on my MacBook? 1. Use the full-screen button

To split the MacBook screen between two apps, you just need to use the full-screen button. This is incredibly simple, and you can do it by following these steps:

Now choose the window from the other side and you’ll successfully split the screen in two.

As you can see, this is incredibly simple, but this method works only for macOS Catalina.

Other macOS versions also support this feature, but the process is slightly different. To split the MacBook screen, do the following:

The active window will now shrink and you can drag it left or right.

To exit the split view, just do the following:

Move the pointer to the top of the screen. The window buttons should be revealed.

After doing that, you should exit the Split View.

If you’re not satisfied with the built-in split-screen feature, you might want to consider using third-party alternatives. How To Delete Old Backups From Time Machine On Mac

If you use Time Machine to backup a Mac to an external drive, you may decide to manually delete old backups that are no longer needed. Yes, Time Machine does it’s own housekeeping, but sometimes users need to manually intervene. This can be for a variety of reasons, whether for simple removal of old backups, or if you eventually run into space limitations on a backup drive where Time Machine triggers an error saying “Time Machine could not complete the backup. This backup is too large for the backup disk. The backup requires XX GB but only YY GB are available.”

Whatever the reason, you can easily delete old backups from a Time Machine drive to either free up space on that drive for a new backup, or just to perform some manual house keeping of a Time Machine drive.

Deleting Old Backups of Time Machine via Time Machine in Mac OS X

This is the preferred approach to deleting old backups made in Time Machine, it uses the Time Machine application itself and is simple, handled entirely through the friendly user interface.

Connect the Time Machine drive to the Mac if you haven’t done so yet

Pull down the Time machine icon in the menu bar, then choose “Enter Time Machine”

Navigate to the point in time you want to delete (if it’s a very old backup you’re looking to delete, scroll until you find the appropriate place in time)

Enter the admin password when requested to delete the backup

Essentially you’ll be navigating to the section of the Mac file system that you want to delete a time machine backup for, thus if you want to delete old backups for the entire Mac, navigate to the root folder, or the user folder, whichever is appropriate for your scenario. In this way, the process of deleting an entire old backup is similar to deleting a backup of a specific file or folder from Time Machine, except that rather than targeting a small portion of the file system, you choose the entire Mac or the user directory within Time Machine.

Deleting Old Backups from Time Machine with tmutil

If you’re savvy with the command line, the tmutil utility can also remove backups of any age immediately. The GUI approach above is much easier for most users as it gives a visual representation of what will be deleted, whereas tmutil is only appropriate for those with sufficient terminal experience. As always with the command line, exact syntax is essential.

The tmutil syntax to use is as follows:

tmutil delete /TimeMachine/Drive/Path/To/OldBackup/

You’ll likely want to list out the directories by date to see which old backup to delete so that you can be sure you have the proper path in place. Using tab completion could skip this if you’re certain, otherwise just use ls to see a list of dates:

ls /Volumes/TimeMachineDrive/Backups.backupdb/MacName/

This list can be quite long and specific.

For example, if you have an old backup from a few years ago you wish to remove on a specific date:

tmutil delete /Volumes/BackupDriveName/Backups.backupdb/MacComputerName/YYYY-MM-DD-HHMMSS/

Be sure to change “BackupDriveName” to the drive name of the Time Machine volume, “MacComputerName” to the name of the Mac you wish to delete the backups from, and the precise date in Year / month / date / time format by replacing “YYYY-MM-DD-HHMMSS” as necessary.

An example of such syntax would be:

sudo tmutil delete /Volumes/Time Machine Backups/Backups.backupdb/MacBook Pro/2024-07-13-150021/

Again, be sure to use exact syntax.

Like other command line tools, tmutil can accept wildcards, meaning you could technically delete all backups this way. Just be sure you know what you’re doing otherwise you may lose data you did not intend to. Unless you make backups of your backups (with Time Machine redundancy or otherwise) that would be impossible to recover from.

Typically removal of old backups is only necessary for very specific maintenance reasons for a backup disk, or to free up space from antiquated backups. Rarely, this can be necessary as a troubleshooting trick too, which is usually caused by a hiccup on the most recent backup file.

Why You Shouldn’t Just Delete Outliers

This article was published as a part of the Data Science Blogathon.

Introduction

Outliers are a very important and crucial aspect of Data Analysis. While doing data preprocessing for a Data Science project, we always think about the extreme values present in the dataset, i.e, should we keep those values for our analysis or we have to just delete them from our dataset.

Let’s highlight the difference between natural and non-natural outliers?

No matter how alert you are during the data collection, every Data Analyst has felt the frustration of finding the outliers. Outliers are one of those problems which we come across almost every time while doing machine learning modeling.

Now, a question comes to mind: ” Are Outliers and Noise the same”?

The answer to this question is “No” since outliers are different from the noise data.

Noise is considered as a random error or the variance in a measured variable.

The process of noise removal should be done before outlier detection.

Table of Contents

👉 What are Outliers?

👉 When are outliers dangerous?

👉 Which statistics are affected by the outliers?

👉 When to drop or keep outliers?

What are Outliers?

In terms of statistics, Outliers can be defined as,

“An Outlier is that observation which is significantly different from all other observations.”

From this definition, we can conclude that an outlier is something that is an odd-one-out or the one that is different from the crowd. Some statisticians formally define outliers as ‘Observations having a different underlying behavior than the rest of the observations’.

Alternatively, outliers are those observations that are significantly different from other observations.

Fig. Image showing an outlier

An analogy of Outliers in Real-life Examples,

Example-1: In a class, we have 100 students and one student who always scores marks on the higher side concerning other students and its score is not much dependent on the Difficulty level of the exam. So, here we consider that guy as an outlier.

Example-2:  let’s have to find the average salary of a group of people and accidentally Bill Gates or Elon Musk-like people entered the group. So, think now about the average salary of new groups of people. Here average salary is not a true representation due to outliers.

When are outliers dangerous?

Outliers are not always dangerous for our problem statement. In fact, outliers sometimes can be helpful indicators.

They represent errors in the measurement, bad data collection(not careful while data collection), or simply show those variables that are not considered while collecting the data. Many data analysts are directly tempted to delete outliers. However, this is sometimes the wrong choice for our predictive analysis. One cannot recognize outliers while collecting the data for the problem statement; you won’t know what data points are outliers until you begin analyzing the data. Since some of the statistical tests are sensitive to the outliers and therefore, the ability to detect them and treat them accordingly is an important part of data analytics.

Let’s consider the following three different scenarios,

Scenario-1: Let’s we have a data of Age for population and the age of a people in that data is 356, and we know that the age value 356 is not possible, so here this data point considered as an outlier and we not know what value we have to replace to this value. So, we have to remove the data point completely from our dataset.

Fig. Showing point for Age=356

Scenario-2: Let’s have a use case of credit card fraud detection, outlier analysis becomes important because here, the exception rather than the rule may be of interest to the analyst.

Scenario-3: Let’s have a regression problem, whereas hours of study are the independent variable and marks are a dependent variable. We have some outliers present, so they attract the line of regression to our side. To resolve this, we can create an IQ column then the outlier behavior may be justified from the IQ column.

Fig. Effect of outliers on the regression line

From these three scenarios, we conclude that the role of outliers is different for different problem statements. So, the main problem is what we have to do with outliers, but finding the outliers in our dataset is not a very difficult task.

Which statistics are affected by the outliers?

Let’s discuss one by one for each statistic,

👉 Mean: It is the only measure of central tendency that is always affected by an outlier since it is calculated as the sum of the observed values and then divide by the total number of observations. Since in the expression of mean, the total sum is included, and due to outliers, there are some abnormal values i.e. Outliers will affect this sum.

For Example, the Let’s outlier is having a bigger positive value than the other values that will make the sum large enough so that the mean will also be slightly larger while if the outlier has a very small value, then the mean will also become a bit smaller. Hence the presence of outliers in our dataset can largely affect the mean.

👉 Standard deviation (SD): It is calculated with the help of every observation in the data set. It is a sensitive measure because it will be influenced by outliers since standard deviation is calculated by taking the difference of sample case from the mean, outliers will affect Standard deviation.

👉 Median: The median is defined as the middle value in a particular distribution. It is the data point at which half of the observations are above, and half of the observations are below wrt that point. It is not affected by outliers, therefore the median is preferred as a measure of central tendency when a distribution has extreme observations.

👉 Inter-Quartile Range (IQR): The IQR is the difference between the 75th and 25th percentile. The IQR is more resistant to outliers. The IQR by definition only covers the middle 50% of the data, so outliers are well outside this range and the presence of a small number of outliers is not likely to change this significantly. If you add an outlier, the IQR will change to another set of data points that are probably not that dissimilar to the previous ones (in most datasets), hence it is “resistant” to change. This is especially the case of a large dataset.

Now if you add some crazy extreme data point at the end, the 75th and 25th percentile doesn’t change much, because extreme outliers or no, 75% of the data still lies below roughly the same amount.

👉Range: Most affected by the outliers since it is the difference b/w the max and min value present in the dataset.

When to drop or keep outliers?

Sometimes outliers indicate a mistake in data collection. Other times, though, they can influence a data set, so it’s important to keep them to better understand the dataset in the big picture.

Drop an outlier if:

👉 You know that it’s completely wrong

For example, if you have a really good sense of how range our data should fall in, like people’s ages, which we discussed above in scenario-1, you can safely drop values outside of that range.

👉 You have a lot of data in hand

👉 You have an option to going back

Don’t drop an outlier if:

👉 Your results are critical

When your results are critical, then even minor changes will matter a lot.

For example, You can feel better about dropping outliers of the dataset in which there are people’s favorite TV shows, but not about the temperatures at which airplane seals fail.

👉 There are a lot of outliers

By definition, Outliers are rare.

How To Remove An Apple Id From A Mac

Have you unintentionally used an Apple ID or logged into an Apple ID on a Mac that isn’t yours, or perhaps that you don’t want iCloud access on? If so, you may wish to remove that Apple ID and iCloud account from that Mac. Similarly, you may want to delete an Apple ID from a Mac if you’re intending on changing the Apple ID in use on that computer for whatever reason.

This article will show you how to remove an Apple ID and iCloud account from a Mac.

Warning: Keep in mind that deleting an Apple ID and iCloud account from a Mac may result in unintended consequences, including loss of data, loss of Contacts syncing, loss of Notes syncing, an inability to use apps purchased or downloaded with a different Apple ID, an inability to access music purchased with a different Apple ID, and much more – if you log out of the Apple ID associated with all of that, then none of that data will be accessible on the Mac unless that Apple ID is used again. Thus you should not casually delete an Apple ID or iCloud account from a Mac.

How to Delete an Apple ID / iCloud Account from Mac OS

It’s a good idea to backup a Mac before modifying any important system settings like these, skipping a backup could result in unintended data loss. How you remove an Apple ID from a Mac depends on the version of system software in use, therefore use the instructions corresponding to

How to Remove an Apple ID / iCloud Account from MacOS Catalina and later

Go to the  Apple menu in the upper left corner then choose ‘System Preferences’

How to Delete an Apple ID / iCloud Accounts in MacOS Mojave and earlier

Go to the  Apple menu in the upper left corner then choose ‘System Preferences’

Select “iCloud” from the preference panel options

Choose “Sign Out” from the iCloud preference panel

Optionally but recommended for most users, select all possible options and choose to “Keep a Copy” of iCloud data on the local Mac *

* If you’re aiming to remove iCloud data as well as an Apple ID and iCloud account from a Mac, you may not want to choose “Keep a Copy” but that is ultimately up to you. Note that failure to do so may result in permanent data loss.

Once you are logged out of the Apple ID / iCloud account, the Mac will no longer have any of the iCloud features, files, or other Apple ID related data available to it (unless you then logged into a different Apple ID of course).

Removing the Mac Association from the Apple ID / iCloud Account

A follow-up additional step may be desirable for some Mac users if they are planning on never using the particular Mac again, or if they’re transferring it to a new owner with a different Apple ID, and that is to remove the device from the iCloud account, in this case you’ll be removing the Mac from the associated Apple ID / iCloud account. The simplest way to do this is from an iPhone or iPad using the same Apple ID:

Open Settings then tap on your name to access iCloud details

Choose “Devices” and then locate the Mac you have just previously deleted the Apple ID from

Scroll down and select “Remove from Account” to completely remove that Mac from the associated Apple ID / iCloud account

This is a good step to take if you’re selling or transferring ownership of a Mac to someone else, as you wouldn’t want the older compute still showing up on your Apple ID and iCloud account if it’s no longer yours.

Keep in mind it’s unnecessary to manually delete an Apple ID from the Mac if you’re simply aiming to erase and reset a Mac to factory settings, perhaps to sell it, or give to someone else, because that reset process will also delete any Apple ID accounts from the computer. But you probably would want to remove the computer from the Apple ID account as instructed.

While the vast majority of Mac users should be using an Apple ID with their Mac, since an Apple ID functions as basically the login gateway to the entire online Apple ecosystem including iCloud, iTunes, and the App Store, some Mac users also may want to have a Mac that has no iCloud functionality or Apple ID related data either, perhaps because it’s a public workstation or some other community device. That would be another situation where deleting an Apple ID from a computer could be reasonable, but otherwise this is something you should not take lightly. It’s also worth pointing out that if you’re aiming to delete an Apple ID from a computer because it’s outdated or your email address changed, you would want to change the email address associated with the Apple ID and then use that for the login.

An Apple ID is really an important component of using a Mac or iOS device within the Apple ecosystem, giving full access to any of the iCloud environment, App Store, iTunes, iCloud files, photos, Contacts, Notes, and so much more. With that in mind, you will want your own unique Apple ID for your own personal use, as they are not intended to be shared (even with family, each family member, partner, spouse, etc, should have their own unique Apple ID). If you’ve been in the situation where you were previously sharing an Apple ID with a partner or child, then it would be reasonable to backup the computer/devices, create a new Apple ID for the other person(s), and then log out of the shared Apple ID and then back into a unique Apple ID for each person. Just don’t skip over the fact that removing an Apple ID from a Mac can potentially delete files, contacts, notes, and other data you may not intend to remove, so back that data up and keep a copy of it if you’re concerned.
