What Are Chapters On A Youtube Video And How To Add Or Disable Them

In this age of digital consumption, YouTube is the one platform that’s used by everyone, irrespective of their interests. While you’d want to listen to a music video without interruption, videos like tutorials and guides might want you to skip ahead to the part you want to watch.

YouTube’s product team is currently testing a new ‘Chapters’ feature to help you navigate videos more easily. With Chapters, you can jump forward to a specific section of the video or rewatch a certain part again without scrolling through the bottom slider that you might usually do.

What are Chapters on a YouTube Video

Chapters will allow users to jump straight to a section of a video at any time. Users can also use them to rewatch a portion of the video without seeking manually. In addition to meeting users skip sections of content, Chapters could be a good way to offer viewers more information about a video.

The feature is currently under testing and during its initial release, creators will need to include timestamps in their video’s description to create Chapters. For descriptions without the timestamps, YouTube won’t insert chapters in the video. Chapters on a YouTube Video will be available on both web and mobile apps.

What are Chapters Markers on YouTube Video

YouTube Chapters on Google Search

Google seems to be slowly porting the YouTube Chapters feature to its Google Search service. We have spotted (April 29) that searching for different queries on Google yields you with chapters on select YouTube videos.

In addition to opening the video on your YouTube app, you can start watch at the start of a particular chapter by tapping on the Chapter heading from within the search page. You can scroll through a video’s entire chapter list by sliding to the right from within the Chapters box.

Note: YouTube Chapters requires channels to accurately specify timestamps on their videos and there’s a likelihood that the feature won’t show up for the topics you search.

How are they useful

Chapters in YouTube are basically designed to help you navigate videos with ease. They will not only help you skip ahead to a certain section but will also let you rewatch an already played portion of the video. The best use-case of YouTube Chapters can be inside guides and tutorial videos where a user might only be interested in watching a part(s) of a video.

You can move between different sections of the guide without manually seeking through the slider at the bottom. Besides that, you can also hover over a section at the bottom to learn a chapter title and get a brief idea of what a selected chapter is all about. Longer format videos will benefit the most from Chapters as users will be able to skip to the part they want to watch and these videos could include live concerts, podcasts, tutorials, and reviews.

Are Chapters created automatically

To answer it simply, NO! As of now, YouTube uses the timestamps in the video description to create Chapters on the seek bar. Creators will need to include timestamps in their video’s description to enable Chapters on their YouTube videos. Chapters

How to add Chapters to your YouTube video

To create chapters on your YouTube video, you will need to type a timestamp inside its video description. Follow these instructions to add chapters to your YouTube video.

Note: Chapters in YouTube is currently under testing phase and are only available for a short period of time for a small group of people. If it isn’t available for you, you will not be able to create videos with Chapters or view them on an already created video with timestamps.

Step 1: Note the timeline of your music video, especially the start time for each of your chapters. For example, your video intro will start from 0:00, Chapter 1 will commence from 3:14, Chapter 2 will start at 5:45 and so on.

Step 2: Inside the video description box, type your video’s timestamp in the following format:

For example, you can add the following details as timestamps:

0:00 Intro 3:14 Chapter 1 5:45 Chapter 2 8:05 Chapter 3 12:20 Final words

If your video doesn’t have a timestamp for the very start of the video which is 0:00, Chapters won’t show up. You can name it as ‘Intro’ or a title of your choice but only doing so will enable Chapters for your YouTube video.

Step 3: Save your changes to the video description.

How to stop YouTube from adding chapters on your YouTube video

YouTube’s team is still testing Chapters at the moment. They are available to a small number of creators and if you’re one of those who are in the experiment, you can opt-out of it. If you wish to disable YouTube Chapters on your video, you can do so by adjusting the first timestamp in your video description.

YouTube Chapters will only be enabled if timestamps in your video description start at 0:00. If you do want timestamps in your description but want to remove Chapters from the video, you can modify your ‘Intro’ or first timestamp to start at 0:01 instead of 0:00. This will disable chapters on your YouTube video.

How To Convert A Spotify Playlist To An Apple Music Playlist

Spotify might be one of the first streaming services to hit the market, but it’s no longer the only option for consumers. Apple Music has been building a significant user base since it first launched in 2024, and it’s now the first-choice streaming service for Apple device owners, along with millions of others.

If you’re thinking about switching from Spotify to Apple Music, you probably don’t want to lose your carefully crafted playlists. While the process isn’t simple, it is possible to convert a Spotify playlist to Apple Music if you want to. Here’s how to do it on desktop and mobile devices.

Table of Contents

Using SongShift to Convert a Spotify Playlist to Apple Music on iOS

Unfortunately, there isn’t a built-in option to allow you to convert a Spotify playlist to Apple Music, but you can use an app called SongShift to do this on iOS, should you need to. Similar apps like STAMP exist for Android users.

SongShift allows you to move your playlist and music library between several different music streaming platforms. It supports Spotify and Apple Music, as well as other platforms like Deezer and YouTube Music, and allows you to review song matches and cancel any mismatched songs during the transfer process.

To start, download and install SongShift from the App Store, then open the app. Tap the SongShift icon at the bottom of the screen to begin the transfer process.

Tap the Setup source option at the next screen.

Tap the Connect more option.

Scroll through until you find the Spotify option, then press Connect. Use your Spotify account details to sign in at this stage.

Repeat this for Apple Music by locating Apple Music and pressing Connect, then signing in with your Apple Music account details.

With both services connected, return to the Shift setup screen and press Setup source again. Select Spotify as your setup source, then tap Playlist.

Select the playlist or playlists you want to copy from Spotify to Apple Music from the Source Playlist screen. Free SongShift users can only transfer a single playlist at once, while premium users can select multiple playlists to transfer. Press Select once you’re finished selecting your playlists.

Tap Setup destination to begin transferring your playlist to Apple Music. Select Apple Music as the destination, then tap New Playlist.

Confirm the options are correct (including the new playlist name), then tap I’m Finished to begin the transfer process.

Converting Spotify to Apple Music Playlist Matches using SongShift

The SongShift app and service will begin copying your playlist options from Spotify to Apple Music. Not all songs will transfer, however—rights limitations mean that Spotify and Apple Music don’t always have the same artists and bands available for playback.

You’ll need to review your playlist before you allow SongShift to create it on Apple Music.

Once the playlist transfer is complete, tap your playlist in the SongShift screen, under the Ready for Review section.

If you have any failed matches, press the Ignore button under the Failed Matches section to remove them from your new Apple Music playlist. If you have a SongShift Pro premium subscription, you can also tap Re-Match to manually search for an equivalent song.

If you’re happy with the choices, tap the Confirm Matches button.

SongShift will begin copying your new playlist to Apple Music at this point. Once the process has completed, you’ll be able to play your playlist in the Apple Music app on your iOS device and on other platforms.

Converting Spotify Playlists To Apple Music Online

If you want to convert a Spotify playlist to Apple Music on other platforms, like Windows or macOS, you could use an online service like Soundiiz. This works in a similar way to SongShift, copying your playlists from one music streaming service to another.

Copying playlists from one platform to another requires a premium Soundiiz subscription—if this is a problem, consider using SongShift or STAMP instead.

You’ll need to register for a Soundiiz account before you can use it. Once registered and signed in, head to the Soundiiz web app on your browser. Press the Spotify icon on the left, then press Connect.

With both Spotify and Apple Music services connected to your Soundiiz account, press the Platform to Platform option in the left-hand menu, under the Tools section.

Select Spotify as your source service and Apple Music as your destination service.

Start the playlist transfer by pressing the Begin the transfer button at the final stage.

All of your saved Spotify playlists will begin to transfer to Apple Music at this point. You can view the progress of this, including any missed matches, by pressing the My batches tab under the Automation section in the left-hand menu.

Switching Between Streaming Services

Thanks to platforms like Apple Music, consumers have far more choice in streaming services. If Apple Music or Spotify isn’t right for you, you should consider alternative platforms like YouTube Music instead. Apple users may want to stick with switching to Apple Music, however.

Mortal Kombat Reboot Now A Reality Via Viral Youtube Video

Mortal Kombat reboot now a reality via viral YouTube video

If you’re a fan of one of the most famous fighting-based video games of all time, Mortal Kombat, certainly you’ve heard of the YouTube fan series “Rebirth.” Oh you haven’t? You’re in for a treat. Not only is the story at hand a rebirth of the film series based on the video game, its a rebirth of the career of the filmmaker whose only other notable work is an unsuccessful remake of “Fame”. The short film that started it all was created out of love for the series – and a desire to reboot the series. Turns out his gamble (and the good timing with the newest installment of the video game series) payed off because Warner Bros. is giving the creators the green light.

That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, the original greatest fan-film for Mortal Kombat in the short, short history of fan films for said video game is going to be a major motion picture. It’s the two Warner Bros. units that are coming together on this one, New Line Cinema for the film portion and Burbank studios’ video game unit Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. For those of you that do not know, Warner Bros attained the rights to the Mortal Kombat series by buying Midway Games out of bankruptcy in 2009 to the tune of $49 million. Since then they’ve created one of the most wildly successful installments in the Mortal Kombat series, Mortal Kombat 9. The new film installment, though having a little bit to do with the game, will follow a more true-to-life storyline with special effects kept somewhat to a minimum.

Kevin Tancharoen and Oren Uziel present Mortal Kombat: Rebirth

It’s the original viral video above that inspired the folks at Warner to allow the duo to create an extended series of the short, complete with the full cast: Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade, Michael Jai White as Jax, Matt Mullins as Johnny Cage, Lateef Crowder as Baraka, and Ian Anthony Dale as Scorpion. These same actors (and more) then move on to work on the rest of the viral video series made alongside the video game release (relatively, that is.)

The series that Warner eventually agreed on at first was a 9-part mini released by Machinima, a site centered around gaming and media video streaming, it called Mortal Kombat: Legacy. You can view the whole series through this first episode – once you get to the end, you can move on to the next, then to the next, etc. It is unclear at this point whether or not this series will be the jumping off point for the movie, or if the movie will simply be a complete reboot:

Either way, we’re pretty pumped up about this. Mortal Kombat is already a film series from the 1990s, one that only lasted two films and, though they did not age well AT ALL, remains a part of the kitsch-pop culture your humble narrator constantly feels the need to preserve. One thing is certain, this newest film will have nothing to do with the first two other than coming from the same greater lore.

Look like a good film to you? We’ll see inside 2012 if all goes well!

How Gretchenlovesbeauty Became A Youtube Sensation

How GretchenLovesBeauty Became a YouTube Sensation Questrom student’s channel has more than 200,000 subscribers

Gretchen Geraghty (Questrom’19) has partnered with fashion companies like Urban Outfitters and Victoria’s Secret Pink for her YouTube channel, GretchenLovesBeauty, which has received nearly 24,000,000 total views since she launched it in 2012. Photo by Cydney Scott

For Gretchen Geraghty, setting up lighting and equipment to shoot makeup and beauty videos in her StuVi digs between classes is a normal part of her routine. The 20-year-old is the creator and star of the popular YouTube channel GretchenLovesBeauty, which she began as a high school freshman in Latham, N.Y. Today, Geraghty (Questrom’19) is an internet personality, with business savvy to boot—in the five years since starting her channel, she has successfully built a brand and made a name for herself in the competitive world of beauty blogging.

Geraghty’s warm, upbeat personality, mile-a-minute speech, and seemingly tireless enthusiasm have won legions of fans. The channel has amassed almost 200,000 subscribers, and her videos nearly 24,000,000 views. As a YouTube partner, Geraghty makes money every time one of her videos is viewed (each is preceded by a product’s ad). And they have caught the eye of major fashion and beauty brands like Neutrogena, Pantene, Society6, and Urban Outfitters. She earns additional fees for promoting their products, although she prefers not to say how much.

“I work with brands that I feel are applicable to my audience,” says Geraghty. “I turn down a majority of brands because I want to work with the ones I like the most and think my subscribers will like.”

She credits her success to being an “open book” and seems both surprised and humbled by what she has achieved, frequently saying the resulting fame is crazy.

“I never knew that it would grow into what it has grown into,” she says. “YouTube is a big part of my life, and it’s so much fun. I really just started for fun and never thought it would grow into what it is.”

“I’ve always been interested in and enjoyed fashion and makeup, and I love being able to share my ideas and thoughts with my viewers,” she says.

Geraghty says her Questrom classes have helped her communicate and negotiate with companies and keep track of what she earns from her videos. “I’m running my own business essentially. That’s been hard for me in certain cases, since I’m all on my own,” she says. “Questrom has helped me with the business end of things.”

Last summer, she and her twin sister, Lucy Geraghty (SAR’19), started a more informal secondary channel, Gretchen + Lucy, where they post video blogs and day-in-the-life videos. That channel already has 60,000 subscribers and over 7,700,000 views to date.

On the new channel, she has talked about rushing for a sorority and chatted about everyday college experiences like homework and going to the dining hall. These have earned some of the highest views, which she attributes to students watching her videos to get a feel for the University.

Geraghty says she doesn’t have concrete plans for life post-BU, but she’s interested in continuing her GretchenLovesBeauty channel.

“I feel so lucky that what I love is my job too,” she says. “I try not to worry too much about numbers or compare myself to other YouTubers. I just like that the people watching my videos enjoy them.”
