We’ll try to get you up and running with a few techniques today, but it may simply not be possible on your device.

Also: Some of the steps in this article were put together using a Google Pixel 7 Pro running Android 13. Steps might vary depending on your hardware and software.

How to set up a mobile hotspot on Android

You have likely seen the hotspot button in your device’s quick settings drawer. While that is the fastest and easiest way to turn your mobile hotspot on and off, you will want to take a moment to configure things first.

Here’s how you configure a hotspot connection on Android:

Open the Settings app.

Go into Network & internet.

Select Hotspot & tethering.

Tap on Wi-Fi hotspot.

This page has options for turning the hotspot feature on and off. Additionally, you can change the network name, security type, password, and more.

Follow the instructions to customize the hotspot feature to your liking.

When ready, toggle on Use Wi-Fi hotspot.

Once your hotspot settings are configured, you can also use the Quick Settings in the notification area. Here’s how to do it.

Turn on the mobile hotspot using the Android Quick Settings:

Swipe down from the Home Screen.

Swipe down again to see more Quick Settings toggles.

Find Hotspot and tap on it.

If you don’t see it, you can tap on the pencil icon and drag the Hotspot toggle to the active Quick Settings.

How to set up USB tethering on Android:

Use your Android phone’s USB cable to connect it to your computer.

Wait a bit for your computer to set up the connection.

Open the Settings app.

Tap on the Network & internet option.

Select Hotspot & tethering.

Toggle the USB tethering option on.

The same process can activate Bluetooth tethering, but we don’t recommend it over Wi-Fi or USB because it’s much slower. If you still want to do it, connect other devices to your tethering source via Bluetooth instead of performing step number one. Others offer a dedicated amount of data just for hotspot purposes. Some plans don’t allow using the hotspot feature. You’ll have to look into your data plan for more details.

It depends on what you’re doing. Connected devices will pull all the data they need from your phone’s hotspot. This means you should use very little data for tasks like writing emails. The story won’t be the same if you stream or download significant amounts of content.

It’s not recommended to use a phone’s hotspot capabilities to replace traditional internet services. This will run your phone hot constantly, and the battery will die very quickly. Additionally, it can cost you a lot, as cellphone plans don’t typically offer unlimited hotspot data plans. That said, it’s an excellent temporary solution for trips, working from coffee shops, and other similar scenarios.

Using the hotspot feature, you can share your phone’s internet with up to 10 devices.

You might also want to consider getting a dedicated mobile hotspot. These can use cellular network data and create a Wi-Fi network wherever there is a signal. Custom Calculated Metrics on YouTube

What are Calculated Metrics in Google Analytics?

Metrics are single data points, usually something you can count like pageviews or user sessions. Calculated Metrics are user-defined metrics that are computed from existing metrics.

For example, a Google Analytics report might include Pageviews across your site as a metric. The dimensions down the left side are properties that describe the metric (in this case, the page path).

There are also some pre-existing calculated metrics. It is which you can combine data points with each other to describe a relationship.

A page’s bounce rate, for example, is one of these calculated metrics that is defined as the percentage of single page visits that occurred on a certain page.

So Google Analytics already has a lot of calculated metrics available to use in your reports, but sometimes you need something a little different—something specifically relevant to your website.

Luckily, you can include custom data like this in your reports by calculating your own metrics.

How to Create Custom Calculated Metrics?

Under your Reporting tab, you can find the bounce rate alongside other common calculated metrics such as pages per session, percent new sessions, and average session duration.

In this tutorial, however, we’re going to use Pageview metric along with the Users metric to build a new custom calculated metric for the number of pageviews per user.

Create Your First Metric?

Give your metric a name. Make sure to choose something descriptive and informative, since you will be able to query for this name via the Reporting API.

Next, select an appropriate Formatting Type. In many cases, Float is a good generic type since it is the most accommodating of different values. Integer, Currency, Time, and Percent are more specific but more restrictive.

Now you can write a Formula that will determine the relationship between existing metrics, resulting in your custom calculated metric.

Amazingly, this actually works retroactively. We can add or change calculated metrics, and Google Analytics will go back and reprocess existing data. This means that you’ll be able to find this metric even in older reports.

Using Custom Metrics in Reports

So once you’ve built a custom metric, how can you use it in your report?

Custom calculated metrics are available in dashboards or widgets, but most of the time you’ll probably want to build your own custom report.

Give your report an informative title. If this report is focused around your custom metric, you may want to even use the same name.

Then, choose whatever metrics that you want to include in your report. Your custom metrics will likely be listed under Other.

In order to see what campaigns and backlinks are promoting the most engagement with your site, select the Source / Medium dimension for this example.

After you save your report, you’ll see your new custom metric represented across relevant dimensions in your report. In this case, we have the number of pages visited per user that came through a given source.

How To Set Up Youtube Tv Family Sharing

If you have a YouTube TV subscription, you can use the YouTube TV family sharing (also known as YouTube TV Family Groups) feature to share that subscription with up to 5 family members. Once you create your family group, you’re the family manager.

In this article, you’ll learn how to set up YouTube TV family sharing, add or remove members, and the requirements and limitations of this service.

YouTube TV Family Group Requirements

There are a few limitations to how the YouTube TV family group works.

Family members you invite must be at least 13 years old.

The family manager must be at least 18 years old and have a Google account.

You and your family must live in the United States.

No one in your family group can be part of another family group.

Additionally, YouTube TV is for regular Google account holders only, and if you’ve signed up with a G Suite account, you won’t be able to create a family group.

How to Create a Family Group

To set up a Family Group, you simply need to set up your home location and add family members to the group.

1. Sign in to your YouTube TV account, select your profile photo and select Settings.

2. Select Family sharing from the left menu in the Settings window.

3. Select Continue to walk through the wizard for creating a family group.

4. Walk through the wizard to invite each family member by their email address and select Send.

5. When finished, you’ll see a confirmation message. Select Go To YouTube TV to get started!

Your Google family group is now ready for you to start using YouTube TV once you’ve added your family members using the steps below.

How to Add and Remove Family Members

If you didn’t add all of your family members when you created the group and want to invite more, use the following steps.

1. Sign in to your YouTube TV account and access the Family Sharing Settings page.

2. Select the Manage link.

3. To add a new family member, select Invite family member. Existing family members will already be listed.

4. Add the email address for the family member you want to invite. If they’re in your Google Contact list, you’ll see them under the email field. Select the family contact to add them.

5. Select the Send button to email the invite to that family member.

If you’re a family member who’s received an invite, follow the instructions in the email link to join the family group.

How to Leave or Delete a Family Group

You’ll need to leave your original family group before you can start a new family group of your own.

Leave YouTube TV Family Sharing

You’ll no longer be a member of the Google family group and will lose access to YouTube TV family sharing.

Note: Leaving the Google family group will only remove you from the group. Your Google account will stay active along with all your personal Google services.

Delete YouTube TV Family Group

The only person who can delete a family group is the person who created the group — the family manager. Make sure you’re logged into Google and YouTube TV using that account.

Select Family sharing from the left menu.

Select Manage.

Select Delete family group from the left menu.

Enter your password again, and select the Confirm button.

Upon deleting the group, only you will be able to use your YouTube TV membership.

YouTube TV Family Sharing Limitations

Think again if you plan to add friends or people outside your family to your family group. YouTube TV identifies you or your family members’ location using the internet connection you’re using. This is also how YouTube TV provides location-appropriate content.

Since you have to set the home area as the family manager, if someone attempts to access the YouTube TV family sharing service from another location using a different Wi-Fi, YouTube will block it. This is because everyone you provide your membership to must be living in the same household. One way around this is to watch YouTube TV using cellular data, so long as you have a plan where you can consume that much data without significant charges.

If your family group members never use the YouTube TV membership, they’ll eventually get automatically removed after 90 days, and you’ll have to invite them again.

Finally, YouTube only allows using YouTube TV on 3 devices (not 5) simultaneously in your home on the base plan. But, individual members could potentially use more than one available device if they’re streaming YouTube TV at the same time on multiple devices.

What is TouchWiz?

If you have a Samsung Galaxy smartphone or tablet then the Android user interface, or skin, is called TouchWiz. A year ago we would have told you it was very different to stock Android, but Samsung has since taken steps to streamline its UI and make it less of a burden on resources.

Samsung has come under criticism over the year for TouchWiz being a little over complex and busy. Luckily it has seen sense and cleaned it up with a more minimalist look and feel, fewer preinstalled apps and improved overall performance.

That said, it’s still packed with handy features – many of which are now finally part of stock Android – such as Multi-window, which lets you can run two supported apps side-by-side, and Themes. We also like the useful and customisable notification bar and the intuitive Settings menus. Some features, however, are hidden away in said menus like Smart Stay and various gestures.

It might not be our favourite, but it’s certainly no longer the case that we’d actively avoid TouchWiz.

What is MIUI 8?

MIUI 8 is the custom Android UI used by Xiaomi in all its devices, and is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It’s quite the departure from standard Android, though, with no app tray, a re-ordered Settings menu, and Xiaomi’s own apps in place of Google ones – in fact, there’s no support for Google Play at all out the box.

That isn’t a reason to avoid MIUI, provided you’re comfortable with using Xiaomi’s apps or with sideloading apps and installing Google services yourself. This is easily achieved by sideloading the Google Installer APK, but removing or replacing all the Chinese-language apps, notifications and even keyboard can take a little longer.

MIUI 8 has a lot of great features to recommend though, and although we find the lack of an app tray odd it’s something that may appeal to switchers from iOS for its familiarity. Given how large phone screens are getting these days, one of our favourites is the One-handed mode, which can shrink the screen to 3.5-, 4- or 4.5in, and move it to the left or right side of the display to suit both left- and righthanded users. This goes hand in hand with the Quick Ball, which places onscreen a movable icon that gives you quick access to back, home, screenshot and other options.

This UI is easily cutomisable by the user, with multiple Themes to choose from. You can also tweak the screen colours and contrast, change the font and text size, customise the ordering of the buttons below the screen, the colour and behaviour of the notifications LED and more.

What is EMUI 5?

Huawei- and Honor-branded devices feature a custom Android skin called Emotion UI, or EMUI for short. While some skins strive to be as close to stock Android as possible, Huawei’s option has been, historically, as far from stock as you can get – until now, anyway. The completely overhauled EMUI 5 looks to fix long-time complaints like the lack of an app tray, and an over-complicated interface.

Huawei prides itself on the fact that you can reach 93 percent of all functions of an EMUI 5-enabled smartphone within three taps, a huge change when compared to the confusing EMUI 4. It’s much cleaner and crisper too, featuring a rather attractive blue-and-white colour combination throughout the OS and within Huawei’s own apps too. It also brings a miss-touch feature that doesn’t register accidental taps, but this is exclusive to the only curved screen Huawei smartphone, the Porche Design Mate 9.

EMUI 5 also features many relatively untouched features found in Android N, including multi-window, quick app switching and Google Now on Tap.

The most impressive feature of the software? Huawei claims that EMUI 5 can keep the performance of the smartphone up regardless of how often you use the phone. It does this by using an algorithm that learns how you use your phone to make sure there’s always enough resources to run the apps you use most often. This is done via a combination of smart CPU management, storage defragmentation, memory compression and GPU acceleration thanks to native Vulcan support. The company has gone as far as to say that it could even perform better than originally after a year of use, more than enough time for EMUI 5 to optimise the smartphone for you.

EMUI 5 is currently available on the Huawei Mate 9 with support for the Huawei Mate 8, P9 and P9 Plus all receiving the update in early 2023. Beyond that, the Honor 8, along with other Honor-branded devices, should receive the update in Q2 2023.

What is OxygenOS?

OnePlus handsets run a skin called OxygenOS. While its smartphones run closer to stock Android than most, the company’s version of the OS is clean, crisp and easy to use. Much remains the same; the app tray, notifications and menus are only slightly changed in appearance, but there is a unique text messaging app rather than Google’s standard.

The latest version (3.5) runs on the OnePlus 3T and is a modification of Android Marshmallow, though this will be updated to Nougat in December 2023. A swipe right from your home screen gets you to the handy Shelf where you can type a memo, see your recent contacts, apps and more.

OxygenOS also gives you tweaked versions of the Gallery, Music, Weather and file manager apps, and you can resize and customise the appearance of all app icons on the home screens and app tray. Pair this with a dark or light theme to suit your mood and change the entire feel of the user interface. The overall effect is slightly warmer than the sparseness of fully stock Android.

How To Get A Custom Rich Presence On Discord

To get a Custom Rich Presence on Discord, you need to first download BetterDiscord.

Then, install the “AutoStartRichPresence” + “BDPluginLibrary” plugins, create a new app, configure the visualizer, and paste the configuration on AutoStartRichPresence’s settings.

After you’ve pasted the configuration from the visualizer, your profile will have a Custom Rich Presence.

Here’s how to get a Custom Rich Presence on Discord:

1. Download BetterDiscord

The first step is to download BetterDiscord on your desktop.

BetterDiscord expands the current features of Discord.

With BetterDiscord, you can add plugins to Discord such as the Custom Rich Presence plugin.

After you’ve installed BetterDiscord, the Discord app will open automatically.

On Discord, you’ll see a “BetterDiscord” pop-up that informs you of the latest update.

This means that you’ve successfully installed BetterDiscord.

2. Install AutoStartRichPresence

The first plugin that you want to install is the AutoStartRichPresence plugin.

The AutoStartRichPresence plugin will automatically start the Custom Rich Presence app when you open Discord.

3. Install BDPluginLibrary

The second plugin that you want to install is the BDPluginLibrary plugin.

The BDPluginLibrary plugin adds a plugin library to BetterDiscord.

4. Add the plugins to BetterDiscord

After you’ve downloaded the AutoStartRichPresence and the BDPluginLibrary plugins, you need to add them both to BetterDiscord.

Firstly, open Discord on your desktop.

Once you’re on Discord, you’ll see your profile picture at the bottom of the left sidebar.

Next to your profile picture, you’ll see three icons including a microphone, headphones, and gear.

On the left sidebar, you’ll see multiple options including “My Account”, “User Profile”, “Privacy & Safety”, and more.

Scroll down the sidebar until you find the “BetterDiscord” header and do this:

After you’ve added the AutoStartRichPresence and the BDPluginLibrary plugins to the plugins folder, you need to enable them.

Firstly, enable the AutoStartRichPresence plugin under your plugins.

Then, enable the BDPluginLibrary plugin.

5. Create a new app on the Discord Developer Portal

The fifth step is to create a new app on the Discord Developer Portal.

This will allow you to get the Custom Rich Presence on Discord.

Then, log in to your Discord account.

This name will be displayed as your Discord status.

For example, if the name of your application is “YourGameName”, your Discord status will be “Playing YourGameName”.

Hence, you need to choose a name that you want to display as your Discord status.

6. Add images to “Art Assets”

Now that your application is created, you’ll see multiple options on the left sidebar.

This includes “General Information”, “OAuth2”, “Bot”, and others.

This will open the “Rich Presence Art Assets” page where you need to do this:

Now, you need to wait for 5 minutes or more for Discord to process your images.

7. Open “Visualizer” & edit it

This will open the Rich Presence Visualizer.

On the Rich Presence Visualizer, you’ll be able to change the appearance of your Custom Rich Presence on Discord.

You can see a preview of how your Custom Rich Presence will look like on the right.

Play around with these fields until you get the appearance that you want.

8. Copy your app ID & open AutoStartRichPresence’s settings

Now that you’ve created an application in the Discord Developer Portal, you need to link it to the AutoStartRichPresence plugin.

After you’ve copied your application ID, you need to go back to Discord.

If this is your first time using the plugin, you need to create a new profile.

9. Open “Visualizer” & paste everything on AutoStartRichPresence

After you’ve created a new profile, scroll down AutoStartRichPresence’s settings and do this:

Firstly, open the “Rich Presence Visualizer” in your application (in the Discord Developer Portal from step #7).

Then, paste your application’s ID on the “Client ID” field (you should’ve copied this from step #8).

Secondly, copy the fields from the “Rich Presence Visualizer” and paste them into AutoStartRichPresence’s settings.

For example, the “State” field in the “Rich Presence Visualizer” goes into the “State” field in AutoStartRichPresence’s settings.

Similarly, the “Details” field in the “Rich Presence Visualizer” goes into the “Details” field in AutoStartRichPresence’s settings.

10. Edit the buttons

Now, scroll down AutoRichPresence’s settings.

At the bottom of AutoRichPresence’s settings, you can add buttons to your Discord profile.

Here’s how you can do this:

Otherwise, the links might not work.

11. Enable “Game Activity”

The final step is to enable the “Game Activity” setting on Discord.

Otherwise, your Custom Rich Presence will not show up.

Firstly, go to your user settings on Discord.

This will open your activity status settings.

Lastly, enable the “Display current activity as a status message” option by turning on the switch next to it.

If you’ve successfully enabled and configured Custom Rich Presence, here’s what your Discord profile should look like whenever someone visits it (as shown above).

If you don’t see it, press “CTRL + R” to refresh Discord, then visit your profile again.

Congrats, you now have a Custom Rich Presence on Discord!
