The Steam client received a major updatewhere it introduced a new feature called Remote Play Together, which is designed to allow users to play local multiplayer games on Steam over the internet.

The feature has passed through the beta stage and is now live on the Steam client.

How do I play local multiplayer on Steam?

You will need to update the Steam client to the latest version, as Remote Play Together is now out of Beta. This means that to play local multiplayer games on Steam over the internet, you and your friends will need the latest update to the client.

Keep in mind that only certain games support this feature. That being said, the list is thousands of titles long and more are being added, so you will have a wide selection to choose from.

If you want to see the complete list of local multiplayer titles available on Steam, check out the Steam Store page.

Steam not connecting to the server? Don’t worry, we have you covered.

How does Remote Play Together work?

Once you start a Steam Remote Play session on your PC and invite friends to join a game, all the game activity is captured on your PC and sent to the other player‘s computers.

The other players will then see the image of the game, as well as the UI input, similar to an interactive streaming session. Voice and chat will also work just like in any normal game session.

Remote Play acts as a form of streaming, where one player hosts the game on their PC and projects it on the screens of everyone else. Everyone else will see the image and control the game as if they had it.

Additionally, Remote Play also allows users with low-end PCs to enjoy otherwise resource-intensive titles.

What do I need to host a Remote Play session?

For a proper streaming experience, UDP ports 27031 and 27036, and the TCP ports 27036 and 27037 need to be open. The Steam client needs to listen to these ports in the firewall of the PC, as well as the router or modem.

It goes without saying that since you will be running a game not only for yourself but others as well, that your PC needs to have no problem running multiple sessions of a given game.

Additionally, since you’ll be streaming all of your content, a wired Internet connection is preferred. Steam also recommends that clients should have a GPU that supports hardware-accelerated H264 encoding.

For more information on Steam Remote Play Together and how to play local multiplayer games on Steam over the internet, you can visit the official support page.

Can You Play Genshin Impact On The Steam Deck?

QUICK ANSWER

You can play Genshin Impact on the Steam Deck, but you need to install it separately. Download the PC installer from the Genshin Impact website, then run through the complicated process of installing it in Desktop mode.

Can you play Genshin Impact on the Steam Deck?

Oliver Cragg / Android Authority

Yes, you can play Genshin Impact on the Steam Deck, but it will require a few extra steps. The game is not officially available on Steam, and the only ways to install it on a PC are via the Epic Games Store or the official launcher. To play on the Steam Deck, the best method is the latter.

We’ve outlined the steps below, but before we get into that it’s worth pointing out that Genshin Impact is not Deck-verified and you may run into issues. For instance, when version 3.6 of the game launched, it was unable to update on the Steam Deck, meaning you couldn’t play the game. For online games like Genshin Impact, there is no way to play on previous patches, or offline for that matter.

Running Genshin Impact in Proton Experimental mode works fine for now, but it may not work forever. This is not a simple process either, so you’ll need to be somewhat comfortable tinkering with your Steam Deck. That’s sort of what the Steam Deck is all about, so if you’ve made it this far you should be good.

You should also know that Genshin Impact takes up a lot of space on your hard drive. With high-quality textures and thousands of voice lines, it has ballooned to well over 100GB. Even if you have one of the two premium Steam Decks with more storage, you still may want to install it to an SD card.

How to play Genshin Impact on the Steam Deck

Switch to Steam OS desktop mode and open your browser.

Navigate to the official Genshin Impact website and download the PC client.

Open Steam and navigate to your Steam Library.

Hit Add Game, then select Add a Non-Steam Game.

Hit Add Selected Programs and it will add the .exe file to your Steam Library.

Select the Genshin Impact installer in your Steam Library, hit the gear on the right-hand side, then select Properties.

Switch to the Compatibility tab, tick the option for Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool, then select Proton Experimental from the drop-down menu.

Run through the Genshin Impact install process, which will also install Visual C++.

If required, change the Path to your SD card if you are running out of space.

This process can take well over an hour, so be patient. Once finished it may fail to verify your files, but you can do this later, so don’t worry. Just close the program.

At this point, Genshin Impact has been installed on your Steam Deck, but you’ll need to run through another process to get it to show up and run from your Steam Library. What is currently there is just the installer, so now you need to add the game launcher. Here’s how to do that:

Now open a file browser to find the Genshin Impact launcher. You will need to show hidden files via the three lines at the top right.

From your Steam Library, hit Add a Game at the bottom, then Add a Non-Steam Game.

As before, you’ll need to set up compatibility, so select chúng tôi from your library, hit the gear icon to the right, then open Properties.

While it’s open, change the Shortcut name to Genshin Impact to make it easier to find in your Library.

Then, switch to the Compatibility tab, tick the option for Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool, then select Proton Experimental from the drop-down menu.

Hit Play and finish setting up the game. If you run into any problems, make sure the Installation Location is correct by hitting the three lines next to Download. This process can take upwards of half an hour.

Once finished, open the game again and make sure that the login screen is displayed. You can now exit the game and switch your Steam Deck back into Game mode and relaunch it.

And you now have Genshin Impact in your Steam Library ready to play! You may want to adjust settings to get the best performance, as the Steam Deck isn’t quite capable of hitting a stable 60fps. Low settings capped at 45fps should be stable, and if you’re used to playing on mobile you won’t notice the difference.

How To Play Minecraft On Steam Deck

The Steam Deck, Valve’s portable gaming device, is designed to bring the full-fledged PC gaming experience to a handheld device. One of the games you might be interested in playing on this device is Minecraft, a popular sandbox game known for its endless possibilities.

How to play Minecraft on Steam Deck

Minecraft has a vast community and a plethora of mods that can dramatically change or enhance the gameplay. The Steam Deck’s compatibility with PC Minecraft means you can access this wide range of community content on the go.

Switch to Desktop Mode

Because Minecraft isn’t readily available from the Steam Store, and is only available through a dedicated launcher, there are a few extra hoops that you’ll need to jump through first. And in order to get started, you’ll need to switch over to Desktop Mode on your Steam Deck.

Press the Steam button on your Steam Deck.

Scroll down and select Power.

From the Power Menu, highlight and select Switch to Desktop.

Wait until your Steam Deck switches to Desktop Mode.

Install and Set Up Prism Launcher on Steam Deck

Unfortunately, you can’t just download and install the traditional Minecraft Launcher in order to play Minecraft on Steam Deck. Thankfully, there’s a useful app by the name of Prism Launcher which is here to save the day. Prism Launcher is a free and open-source Minecraft launcher that was forked from the MultiMC project. It provides users with the ability to manage multiple Minecraft accounts and instances, each having its own unique mods, resource packs, and more. The project aims to prioritize user freedom and continually incorporate new features and functionalities.

In the top left corner, use the Search box and search for Prism.

Wait for the installation to finish.

Using the search box, search for Prism Launcher and open the app.

After you are finished logging in, close the Manage Accounts window.

A notable feature of Prism Launcher on the Steam Deck is DeckCraft, a modpack designed to optimize the Minecraft experience on the Steam Deck. It includes various enhancements, extra features, and pre-installed shaders. DeckCraft can be installed directly through the launcher.

Add Minecraft to Steam Library

With Minecraft downloaded and installed to your Steam Deck, you’ll now want to add it to your Steam Library. This is an important step as you won’t want to have to boot into Desktop Mode on your Steam Deck every time you just want to relax and play a bit of Minecraft. Here are the steps that you’ll need to take:

From Desktop Mode, open the Steam app on your Steam Deck.

Highlight and select Add a Non-Steam Game from the menu that appears.

Scroll down and select Prism Launcher from the list of installed games and apps.

Select Properties from the drop-down menu that appears.

Place your cursor at the end of the string of text within the Launch Options text field.

Exit the Properties window.

Go back to the Desktop on your Steam Deck.

Change Your Control Layout

If you want to make the most out of being able to play Minecraft on Steam Deck, you’ll want to make sure that you are using an appropriate controller layout. With all of the different buttons and triggers available on the Steam Deck, selecting the right layout is extremely important. Thankfully, there are quite a few great options available from the community, meaning that you won’t have to go through and assign all of the various actions to specific buttons yourself.

After you have returned to Gaming Mode, press the Steam button on the right side of your Steam Deck.

Scroll down and select Library.

Use the R1 button and navigate until the Non-Steam header is highlighted.

Go through the list of options to see which layout you think would work best for your needs.

Is WordleTogether the same as Wordle?

No, sadly Wordle Together is a new beast altogether developed by Mihir Patil, a community contributor to help people with the growing craze of Wordle. The game does try to be true to the original while keeping all the aesthetics but sadly the list of words as well as the word choosing algorithm is not as up to par as you would expect. Niche words seem to be the norm in the game which can sometimes throw players off.

Needless to say, it has only been a few days since the website was made active. We can expect things to get better as the developer optimizes it for better gameplay in the coming days.

How To Play Android Games On Linux

Fancy playing Android games on your desktop? We have shown you how to do so in Windows, but what about Linux? If you want to play Android games on Linux, we have the solution.

Play Android Games With Anbox

Anbox is essentially a version of Android running in a container. When set up, it allows you to run Android applications in an integrated manner with your operating system just like a native Linux application. This platform can be used to run Android games on Linux.

Installing Anbox on Linux

Currently, the only officially supported method of installing Anbox is via the Snaps store, so that’s the method we will cover here. First, there are some kernel modules that you will have to install. Unfortunately, it can be tricky to get these installed on distributions other than Ubuntu and Arch Linux. You can skip installing these modules if you are running Ubuntu 20.04.

Installing Anbox Modules on Ubuntu via PPA

To install the Anbox modules on Ubuntu, first run the commands below.

sudo

add-apt-repository ppa:morphis

/

anbox-support

sudo

apt update

sudo

apt

install

linux-headers-generic anbox-modules-dkms

Next, you will have to manually load the kernel modules. They will start automatically the next time you start up your system. To manually load the modules, run the following:

sudo

modprobe ashmen_linux

sudo

modprobe binder_linux Installing Anbox Modules on Arch Linux

You can install the required modules on Arch Linux via AUR. To do this, you’ll first have to install Git and Base-devel on your system:

sudo

pacman

-S

git

base-devel

Next, you’ll have to git clone the Anbox kernel modules package to your computer:

cd

anbox-git

Finally, run the package build process with the makepkg command.

makepkg

-sri

Again, you will have to manually load the kernel modules. They will start automatically the next time you start up your system:

sudo

modprobe ashmen_linux

sudo

modprobe binder_linux Installing Anbox with Snap

Now that we have the necessary modules installed, we can go ahead and install Anbox from the Snaps store. Snaps comes preinstalled with Ubuntu, Zorin OS, and Solus, though you can install in Arch Linux, too. Instructions are also available on how to install it on other Linux distributions.

To install the Anbox snap, run the following:

sudo

snap

install

--devmode

--beta

anbox

Now you will need to install Android’s development tools in order to install programs on Anbox. To install these, you will need to install Android Studio. Your first step will be to install Java. The latest version is Java 11, and it can be installed with:

cd

android-studio

/

bin

The android studio installation tool can then be started with the following command:

.

/

studio.sh

After that process has been completed, you will still need to install Android’s ADB tools. Do this with:

sudo

apt

install

android-tools-adb

Now start the ADB server with:

adb start-server

You can now start Anbox.

Next, we’ll install Google Play store and fix some processor incompatibility issues. First, you will need to install some required tools with:

sudo

apt

install

wget

curl lzip

tar

unzip

squashfs-tools

You can download a script that automatically installs the Google Play Store, Google Play Services, and libhoudini, which enables support for ARM apps and games.

Download the script with:

chmod

+x chúng tôi the script with:

.

/

install-playstore.sh

After completing all of these steps, you can now get to the fun part and install some games!

Installing a Game on Anbox

You have two options for installing games on Anbox. You can either download an APK for the game from somewhere like APKMirror, or you can just download games from the Google Play Store.

To install a game using an APK file, you will need to navigate to the folder that you downloaded it to. You can then run the following command:

adb

install

chúng tôi sure to replace “gamefilename” with the actual file name of the game APK. After the installation has been completed, you will be able to launch the game from within Anbox. Alternatively, you can just download games from the Google Play Store.

To uninstall games, you can go to Settings and then Apps. Select the game you want to uninstall and then hit UNINSTALL.

Note: not all games will work with Anbox unfortunately. It can be a little hit-or-miss sometimes.

Final Thoughts

Here we have covered a comprehensive method of running Android games on Linux with Anbox. You can even install the Google Play Store with this method. While not every game or app will work with Anbox, there are quite a few that will. If you prefer to play old DOS games instead, try DOSBox or learn to install Windows games on Linux.

How To Reinstall Steam Games On Mac (And Windows / Linux Too)

If you have previously uninstalled Steam games from your computer to free up disk space or remove a distraction, you may eventually decide you want to reinstall the games that you had previously deleted. Or perhaps you have a game in your Steam library that you haven’t installed onto a new computer, but you want to do so. Fortunately the Steam application makes re-installing any Steam game onto a Mac, Windows PC, or Linux computer very easy, as you will see in this tutorial.

It’s important to remember that Steam games are associated with a Steam account. Thus, if you had previously deleted a Steam game you would need to use the same Steam account to reinstall that Steam game, because the game is attached to that Steam accounts library. That’s how most App Stores work by the way, associating the apps and purchases with the account used.

How to Reinstall Steam Games on Mac, Windows, Linux

Remember, you must use the same Steam account that contains the game you wish to reinstall. You will also need an active internet connection to re-download and reinstall the games.

Open the Steam app if you have not done so already and login with the Steam account

Select the game you wish to reinstall onto the computer from the left side menu

The game will re-download and reinstall within Steam. This can take a while depending on how large the game is along with the speed of the internet connection, so be mindful of that when you’re reinstalling any Steam game.

In the tutorial example here, we’re re-installing Civilization VI onto a Mac via Steam that had previously uninstalled the game.

You can watch the download progress, pause the download, or cancel the download and reinstallation of the game if desired for whatever reason too.

You can reinstall any previously owned Steam games this way using the Steam client on any Mac, Windows, or Linux PC. This is also how you reinstall a Steam game onto a new computer. Regardless of the platform, the re-installation of the game(s) are the same. Obviously this tutorial is using a Mac but the Steam client is the same on all supported platforms.

Oh and one final tip; if the reason you had originally deleted the Steam games in the first place was to free up disk storage capacity, then you may find it useful to move the Steam games and saved game files to a new hard drive, whether it’s another internal drive or an external drive – for best results in either situation you’ll want to make sure it’s a fast drive though, whether that’s a USB flash drive, external SSD, or otherwise.

Steam is a popular gaming distribution platform for it’s large gaming library, cross-platform nature, but also because of how easy it is to maintain a game collection that is easy to install, manage, delete, reinstall, and even play on different compatible platforms with many different gaming titles. If you’re a gamer, Steam is an essential.

Enjoy your newly downloaded and reinstalled Steam games!
