Suggested March 2024 Why Do Clients Choose One Cloud Vendor Over Another?

With all the talk about migrating enterprise IT to the cloud, an admin might be forgiven for thinking that clinging to the traditional in-house model would make his employer something like the corporate equivalent of the last fellow standing on the wall at the high school homecoming.

But for businesses looking to make the jump to a cloud deployment, it’s not always that easy to get into the game. Even once an organization has made the decision to head to the cloud and selected their environment — neither a matter of just checking boxes! — a host of challenges concerning security, data migration and project management await.

Cloud Storage and Backup Benefits

Protecting your company’s data is critical. Cloud storage with automated backup is scalable, flexible and provides peace of mind. Cobalt Iron’s enterprise-grade backup and recovery solution is known for its hands-free automation and reliability, at a lower cost. Cloud backup that just works.

So it’s no surprise that the niche sector of cloud solution providers — those companies that can help shepherd IT departments through the transition — has become a growth industry.

One that comes highly recommended – by Google, in this case – is the San Mateo, Calif.-based Appirio, founded in 2006. In the time since, Appirio has helped more than 200 enterprises and other organizations on their path to the cloud, offering a services portfolio that encompasses the implementation and management of deployments on Salesforce, Google, Workday and Amazon.

Indeed, it was Google that recommended Appiro to the IT management at Tyler Junior College, once the school’s senior leadership opted to abandon the SunOne Messaging system in favor of Google Apps.

“Data migration between the two systems created a potential roadblock that would cause the project to miss its target go-live date,” said Tyler Junior College CIO Larry Mendez. “While working with Google Education division, they recommended five companies and only two companies replied within a day.”

Aside from the punctual response, a number of factors ultimately persuaded Mendez and his team that Appirio was the best fit, particularly what he described as “a firm foundation of project management methodologies” and “their deep bench of human resources.”

Mendez also noted that his organization had staked out an ambitious timetable for its transition, which didn’t faze the Appirio team. Concluded this January, the project took just over three weeks to complete.

In selecting Appirio for assistance with its Google Apps migration, Tyler Junior College passed over competing services from Cloud Sherpas, SADA Systems, Sheep Dog and LTECH.

At the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which is in the midst of a two-stage transition to a Salesforce deployment guided by Appirio, the decision to head to the cloud in the first place was not taken lightly.

“Cloud solutioning was — and is — a tough sell internally. The status quo — heavy, on-premise, ‘we want to own our own data’ mentality — doesn’t go away easily,” said Frederick Wolf, national manager of IT programs at the foundation. “We have an executive leadership group that has grown up in the 90’s and is comfortable with what they know: on-premise solutions [and] client-server technology.”

But as it happened, the foundation was using Convio’s Luminate CRM for its fundraising operations, a solution whose underlying architecture paved the way for the migration to the cloud.

“If that hadn’t been something built on top of SFDC I doubt our executive leadership would have approved a cloud-centric solution set,” Wolf said.

As the foundation went shopping for a cloud-solution provider, Appirio had a leg up on the competition, as Wolf said he had “worked directly with a dozen or so Appirians in past lives and knew they knew their stuff.” Additionally, he was confident that they were steeped in the Salesforce environment the foundation was working with.

What’s more, Wolf, like Mendez, was impressed with the professionalism of the Appirio team.

“Appirio showed commitment,” he explained. “While the others were either showing entitlement to the work, or didn’t work with our team collaboratively, Appirio collaborated well and also laid out a financial approach that was based on true partnership.”

The solution providers that the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation considered, but ultimately rejected, included Astadia, TMA, Softrek and Global Cloud, which had built and supported the organization’s legacy systems.

Wolf said that the foundation rolled out the first phase of its deployment in February, with the second phase planned for this month. The organization is planning to undertake the major conversion next May.

We have discussed all the features that BleachBit brings as a free software and what gets added to CCleaner when you get the paid version.

Both of the tools are great and comes with a lot of features but if you are looking for freemium product and just want optimization tool, then BleachBit will work for you. How To Copy A Table From One Database To Another

Copying a table from one database to another can be a straightforward process if you know the necessary SQL commands. Whether you are moving data from one database to another or just want to create a backup of your data, this tutorial will guide you through the process.

Prerequisites

Before you start copying tables, you need to make sure you have access to both databases. You also need to know the names of the source and target databases, as well as the names of the tables you want to copy. You also need to ensure that you have the necessary permissions to copy tables.

Step 1: Connect to the Source Database

The first step is to connect to the source database where the table you want to copy is located. You can use any SQL client tool such as MySQL Workbench, phpMyAdmin, or SQL Server Management Studio to connect to the database.

Step 2: Create a Backup of the Table

It is always a good practice to create a backup of the table before you copy it. This way, you can easily restore the original table if something goes wrong during the copying process. To create a backup of the table, you can use the following SQL command:

CREATE TABLE backup_table AS SELECT * FROM source_table;

This command creates a new table called backup_table and copies all data from the source_table into it. You can replace backup_table with any name you like.

Step 3: Export the Table

The next step is to export the table data in a format that can be imported into the target database. The most common formats are CSV or SQL dump. To export the table in CSV format, you can use the following SQL command:

SELECT * FROM source_table INTO OUTFILE '/path/to/file.csv' FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' ENCLOSED BY '"' LINES TERMINATED BY 'n';

This command exports all data from the source_table into a CSV file located at chúng tôi You can replace the file path and name with any location and name you like.

To export the table in SQL dump format, you can use the following SQL command:

This command exports all data from the source_table in SQL dump format and saves it to a file located at chúng tôi You need to replace username with your database username, source_database with the name of the source database, and source_table with the name of the table you want to copy.

Step 4: Connect to the Target Database

The next step is to connect to the target database where you want to copy the table. You can use the same SQL client tool as in Step 1 to connect to the database.

Step 5: Import the Table

After you have exported the table data, you can now import it into the target database. To import the data from a CSV file, you can use the following SQL command:

LOAD DATA INFILE '/path/to/file.csv' INTO TABLE target_table FIELDS TERMINATED BY ',' ENCLOSED BY '"' LINES TERMINATED BY 'n';

This command imports all data from the CSV file located at chúng tôi into the target_table. You need to replace target_table with the name of the table you want to copy.

To import the data from an SQL dump file, you can use the following SQL command:

mysql -u username -p target_database < /path/to/file.sql

This command imports all data from the SQL dump file located at chúng tôi into the target_database. You need to replace username with your database username and target_database with the name of the target database.

Troubleshooting Tips

If you encounter any errors during the copying process, make sure to check the following:

Check your SQL syntax to ensure that you have not made any typos or mistakes.

If you are using a CSV file to import data, make sure that the file path and the file name are correct.

If you are using an SQL dump file to import data, make sure that the file path and the file name are correct, and that the file is not corrupted.

Check that you have the necessary permissions to access the source and target databases, and to copy tables.

Conclusion

Copying tables from one database to another is a simple process if you know the right SQL commands. By following the steps outlined in this tutorial, you can easily copy tables and move data between databases. Remember to always create a backup of your data before copying it, and to double-check your SQL syntax and file paths to avoid errors.

How To Transfer Files From One Google Drive Account To Another

Google Drive has been around for a long time and if like me, you use Drive on a regular basis to store files, then it’s probably getting quite full by now.

One solution is to buy more storage space. As a for-profit business, Google obviously prefers that you get your wallet out. But another solution is simply to open another Google account (or use an already existing one) and transfer as many of your old files over to that Google Drive space. Then delete them from your main Drive account.

Table of Contents

Google doesn’t offer a seamless experience for doing this as they obviously want you to pay to bump up your storage. Making this process easy would just hurt their bottom line. But there is a free method for manually transferring your files to wherever you want them to go, involving the use of Google Takeout.

Google Takeout – Not a Place To Order Your Pizza

When I hear the word “takeout”, I get hungry, thinking about pizza and Chinese. But in actual fact Google Takeout has nothing to do with food. Instead, it’s all about getting a copy of all of your data whenever you want it.

Google Takeout covers virtually every service it offers and you can download all of the data you have entered into that service. You can then move it to wherever you want or simply keep it on your computer as a backup. For the purposes of this article, we are going to be focused solely on Google Drive and moving all of those files to another Drive account.

Getting Your Files Out Of Drive Account 1

First, sign into the Drive account where you want to move the files out.

Now scroll down the page to “Drive” and tick the box to select it.

Under “Multiple Formats”, choose which formats you want your documents to be exported under. Ironically enough, you CANNOT export under Google Office format. This is the only major drawback to doing this. Unless you have a good reason for doing so, I’d suggest leaving it at the default formats Google suggests.

In the next step, just leave the default options as they are. Your download link will be sent via email and you can download it as a zip archive.

It tells you that it could take hours or possibly days to get your archive, but like all things, it depends on how much data we’re talking about here. For my Drive files, it took ten minutes for the email to arrive with the download link.

Putting The Files Into Drive Account 2

Once your zip file has been downloaded, unzip it and you will see the folder structure exactly as it is on your current Drive account.

Now log into the second Drive account (the one that you will be using as a backup account). In Drive, drop down the left-hand menu and select “Folder upload”.

Navigate to the folder on your computer with the exported Drive files and watch them upload to your new Drive account.

However, as I said before, they will not appear as Google Office files. Rather Microsoft files, PDF’s, etc. From a storage space point of view, this is rather inconvenient.

As far as I can see, the only way is to convert them

However, you may want to take your time doing that on an “as needed” basis as it will be tedious and time consuming doing them all at once.

Deleting The Files From Drive Account 1

If you moved the files over to the secondary account for space reasons, then it makes sense for you now to delete them from the first account. Remember to also empty the trash bin and you will now have lovely extra space appearing for even more files.

Why Do We Have Morning Breath?

Morning breath or morning halitosis is a non-pathological form of halitosis characterized by a noticeably unpleasant breath odor on waking up. Morning breath impacts the majority of people (99%) and persists despite using preventive measures or taking care of oral hygiene.

Why do we have morning Breath?

According to the American Dental Association, bad breath can be either

Physiological − caused by factors related to the dorsal region of the tongue ( containing taste buds and serous glands ).

Exogenous − as a result of factors like food or medicine intake

Pathological − because of preexisting oral or systemic conditions like periodontal disease or diseases in the nose or throat.

Psychogenic − when the bad breath does not exist, but the person believes they suffer from breath-related problems.

Morning breath is a physiological form of halitosis resulting from decreased saliva production and dryness of the mouth. Saliva is vital in cleansing your mouth and removing the particles causing foul odors. The body produces less saliva at night when you are sleeping, drying up the mouth and allowing odor-causing bacteria to build up during this time.

Porphyromonas gingivalis, Prevotella Intermedia, and Fusobacterium nucleatum are a few such bacteria that invade the pockets and crevices of the teeth and break down detoxifying agents like sulfur-containing amino acids of the mouth. In addition, they produce substantial levels of volatile sulfur compounds through the putrefaction of glycoproteins and degradation of proteins and a resulting bad breath.

Left untreated, these VSCs ( Volatile Sulfur Compounds ) can alter the permeability of gingival tissues and penetrate deeper to damage the epithelium and underlying oral tissues.

Other than oral bacteria, the following reasons result in morning breath.

Food Particles

Foods like garlic, onions, horseradish, dairy, and canned tuna are readily absorbed by the bloodstream and travel to the lungs, resulting in bad breath when exhaled after a certain period.

Smoking

Nicotine contains chemicals that destroy the essential bacteria in the mouth, resulting in morning breath. The smoke enters the lungs and is exhaled regularly, giving rise to chronic bad breath.

Dry Mouth

Xerostomia ( either genetic or induced dry mouth ) can reduce saliva production and give rise to symptoms of bad breath, especially after getting up.

Systemic Conditions

Diabetic Acidosis, Hepatic Failure, blood dyscrasias, liver cirrhosis, and gastrointestinal dysfunctions are a few systemic conditions that result in morning breath.

Medicines

Lithium Salts, Penicillamine, Thiocarbamide, Diuretics, and Amphetamines, reduce saliva production as a side effect, resulting in overall bad breath.

Ill-Fitting Prosthesis

Ill-fitting dentures irritate the gums and cause mouth sores that, left untreated, can lead to fungal infections and bad breath. Besides ill-fitting dentures, unclean dentures, wearing dentures for long periods, and old dentures can result in bacterial accumulation issues and bad breath.

Poor Oral Hygiene

If you don’t brush your teeth regularly, food particles get trapped in your mouth or between the teeth resulting in bad breath. Poor oral hygiene also causes plaque formation that adds to the unpleasant smell.

Snoring and Breathing through your mouth Treatment option

Generally, morning breath dissipates by improving dental hygiene and preventing the mouth from drying. You should consult a dentist if

Your bad breath persists even after taking care of dental hygiene

You experience other symptoms along with bad breath, like mouth ulcers, fungal infections, or toothache

When you experience bleeding gums or spit blood on chewing or after brushing your teeth.

Some of the chief methods of managing morning breath are

Mechanically removing biofilm and microorganisms

Brushing, flossing, and scrapping the debris off the tongue help remove any trapped food or plaque deposits and help in managing bad breath.

Using sugar-free chewing gum

Sugar-free chewing gum helps the mouth to produce more saliva that dissipates symptoms of bad breath. Peppermint and spearmint are popular sugar-free chewing gums that keep the mouth fresh.

Antibacterial mouth-rinsing agents

Chlorhexidine, Triclosan, and Cetylpyridinium Chloride are antibacterial mouth-rinsing agents that destroy the bacterial cell wall, cause bacterial enzymatic inhibition, and remove the dental plaques to fight bad breath.

Preventive Measures

Some of the preventive measures to avoid morning breath are

Brush your teeth after you eat.

Floss regularly to remove any debris caught in difficult-to-reach places

Scrape your tongue using a tongue cleaner every day

Use clean dentures or replace the old dentures with new and clean ones

Change your toothbrush every six

Avoid a garlic or onion-rich diet

Get periodic dental check-ups to get timely dental help.

Conclusion

Researchers have even observed that it results in psychological changes like depression and anxiety, which are more common in women than men. Studies conducted on students with a healthy periodontium have shown that the problem can be reduced to a moderate extent but not eliminated despite using commercially available mouth rinses.

Why Do Seals Have Wavy Whiskers?

Almost all mammals grow whiskers. But all whiskers are not created equal. As great as George Clooney’s salt-and-pepper beard looks, the facial hairs of the harbor seal are even sexier. They enable the cunning predator to track its underwater prey from hundreds of feet away.

Now scientists have discovered the secret to those whiskers’ success: their shape. Unlike the smooth hairs that stick out from the cheeks of cats and dogs, seal whiskers are wavy. They bulge along their lengths, like pea pods.

“This shape enhances their ability to detect flows created by fish,” says Heather Beem, author of a study on seal whiskers soon to be published in the Journal of Fluid Mechanics.

Nature seems to have designed whiskers in different ways to serve different purposes. “Whiskers are likely to have many functions, from texture sensing to shape discrimination,” says Mitra Hartmann, a Northwestern University engineer who studies whiskers but was not involved in the new research.

Rats, for instance, use their smooth whiskers the same way that we use our fingertips: to detect the textures of objects. A rough surface brushing up against the hairs sets off different vibrations than a smooth surface.

For harbor seals, whiskers provide an astonishing sensitivity to slight ripples from a fish swimming by. In a previous study, seals blindfolded by German scientists and forced to wear headphones could still pick up the lingering trail of a fish, using their whiskers, half a minute after it had passed. That’s an especially useful ability for a predator that hunts its prey in murky waters difficult to see through.

The seals’ wavy whiskers are fairly unique, says Beem, who studied the whiskers as a graduate student at MIT. They’re found on only a few species of seal and on no sea lions or walruses.

To better understand how a whisker’s shape responds to ripples, Beem built an oversized plastic model of one. She then submerged her model at one end of a long tank of water and pushed it forward to simulate a whisker gliding forward on a swimming seal.

Whisker models

Researcher Heather Beem tested two whisker models: one was wavy like a seal’s whisker, and the other was smooth.

A smooth whisker moving through water through would flap madly, like a car antenna in the wind. That’s because fluid flowing over a smooth object forms whirlpools. Those vortices would tug on a smooth hair, making it wiggle.

Wavy whiskers do not have this problem, the tank experiments showed. “The waviness breaks up the water flowing over it,” says Beem. A seal’s whisker can thus remain steady while in motion.

To see what happens when a whisker encounters ripples from a fish, Beem added a simulated fish to the other end of the tank–a large cylinder that moved forward ahead of the plastic whisker. Whirlpools shed in a regular rhythm by this fake fish traveled through the water and struck the faux whisker. Unlike a smooth whisker, the wavy whisker moved back and forth in time with the ripples. This tempo could in theory provide information to a seal about the speed or size of the fish creating the whirlpools, said Beem.

Hartmann calls the finding “intriguing.” But like any model, Beem’s single plastic whisker is a simplification of the real thing. Hartmann says she is curious to find out what happens when things get more complicated. How, for instance, might the massive head of the seal change the water flows and whisker behavior?

Inspired by her simple experiment, Beem has built a basic whisker sensor for detecting flows. She imagines one day mounting it on an aquatic robotic designed to track migrating schools of fish, or perhaps track flow patterns created by chemical spills.
