A docking station provides a way to plug in a mobile device like your PC to common peripherals in computing. Its also known as a dock or a port replicator.

If you want to connect your laptop to an external monitor, you need a dock or a USB-C.

Windows 11 can fail to detect a second monitor due to simple issues like bugs, dust, or wrong cable connection, among other reasons.

Some users like having a multi-screen setup with up to three monitors. A docking station allows you to turn your laptop into a desktop computer. Your system connects to a printer, monitor, backup drives, mouse, storage, local area network, and a mouse simultaneously.

You can experience docking hitches when you upgrade to Windows 11 or when you connect to the second monitor.

The major issues with this problem are screen resolution, monitor display, charging, connection, and audio. Many users have reported different specific problems.

You might be asking yourself why you experience docking station issues and how to fix them. Well, this article will give you answers to these questions and resolve all your docking nuisance. Let’s get started.

Why does Windows 11 fail to detect the docking station?

Various things can cause docking station issues on Windows 11. For example, dust and particles in the system, external devices, and the computer itself often lead to connection problems.

Sometimes, a simple hitch may be the cause which can be resolved by just rebooting your system, disconnecting and connecting your cables, or you just need to buy the best docking station for Windows PCs.

A second monitor that is not connected to power or poor cable connection will affect your dock, and it won’t work.

Random bugs, settings on your computer, or issues with your monitor may cause detection problems on your Windows 11 PC.

What can I do if Windows 11 is not detecting the docking station? 1. Restart your PC

As we stated earlier, if Windows 11 is not detecting the docking station, this can be caused by temporary bugs.

This issue may be fixed by restarting your system. It is a general rule for simple problems on any system that you turn off and then on and see if the issue is solved.

Expert tip:

2. Reinstall the graphics driver 3. Remove the dock and reconnect it 4. Check your monitor

Checking the second monitor you want to connect to is also important. First, apply simple procedures like connecting the monitor to power.

Cable connection is so essential to the docking station. The commonly used cables are VGA, USB Type-C, HDMI, etc. Verify the connection on your monitor and PC, and see whether it’s working.

If your computer monitor has different connecting ports, you need to exchange the cable to another port. For example, some systems and monitors have two HDMI ports. You might consider changing your HDMI cable from one port to another in the monitor or the laptop.

Manually updating the driver can be time-taking. That’s why we recommend a dedicated tool such as Outbyte Driver Updater as it will scan the web for the latest version and install the proper updates for every single driver on your system.

Can I use a docking station for the desktop?

If you want to use a docking station for a desktop computer, it’s pretty the same procedure as you apply when using a laptop.

However, you might need to consider some other things. For instance, you will need to think about placing your docking station on your computer desk.

Desktop computers have multiple ports, making docking stations less unnecessary. However, some users get away with this by acquiring simple adapters to get the extra ports they need.

Users have reported that the above fixes worked for them to resolve the issue of Windows 11 not detecting the docking station.

However, if the fixes didn’t work for your case, you might be dealing with a substantial technical problem that needs a technician. Do not hesitate to learn more about docking station issues on Windows 11.

Review: Caldigit Thunderbolt 3 Docking Station

CalDigit TS3 is a solid options for pros looking to expand the functionality of their MacBook Pro or Thunderbolt 3 equipped iMac.

More accessories have been hitting the market aimed at pros. Both in functionality, as well as in price. The CalDigit TS3 falls into this category with a wide array of ports, however it still leaves a few areas to be desired.

In use

The first thing I liked about the TS3 was the minuscule size. It is relatively small considered to other options out there. Of course, many docks can achieve this by offloading their power components into an external brick that can be quite large. In this case, the power adapter is almost as large as the unit itself. This is probably a worthwhile tradeoff, as that can sit below your desk, keeping it clutter-free, and giving the dock a smaller footprint.

One of the best things about a Thunderbolt 3 dock isn’t just the ports it provides. It’s the simplicity it offers. You can sit down at your desk, plug in a single cable to your MacBook Pro, and have access to everything connected to the dock. That includes an external display, additional storage options, speakers, ethernet, and even charging. That’s right, the CalDigit is able to provide up to 100 watts of power, which is more than enough for even the 87 watt power draw on your 15″ MacBook Pro.

Port-wise, your options are vast. On the front, you have audio in/out, and a USB 3.1 port. One thing to note of value, the USB port on the front is powered, even if your machine isn’t connected. That means if you have something like an iPhone plugged in, it will continue to charge without your Mac. On the back of the unit, you have several more options available.

2 eSATA ports

2 USB 3.1 ports

Gigabit ethernet

DisplayPort (up to a 5k display)

2 Thunderbolt 3 ports

Aside from the dock, you also have a Thunderbolt 3 cable included. It is a half meter cable, which is perfect if your dock is sitting on the top of your desk. If you want to place the TS3 elsewhere, you may need one of the 1 or 2 meter options that CalDigit has available.

Quick note on the difference between the 2 cables however. The longer length of the Thunderbolt cable requires an active cable, instead of a passive one. It needs additional hardware in the cable to guarantee throughput at the longer distances. Why does any of that matter? Because the benefit of longer lengths comes at the cost of USB 3.0 and 3.1 compatibility. That means the short cable included works with USB 2.0, 3.0, and 3.1. The longer cables are more robust, have a thicker gauge cord, and are compatible with USB 2.0 aside from Thunderbolt 3.

Advantages

For pro users, especially those with some legacy hardware, this may be the best dock. I’m not sure of many other Thunderbolt 3 hubs that support eSATA which is extremely useful. I also appreciate the size and orientation options. It is easier to adapt to your space, instead of the other way around.

There are a few I/O options that I feel are lacking here on the TS3, notably SD or Micro SD card ports. As a photographer and videographer, that is one of the utmost important things to me, which means I’m still left with an adapter. That said, I use XQD type cards frequently, and those always require an external reader, and mine happens to have SD inputs as well, so it isn’t a huge deal. I can see for others, this would be a painful thing to leave off.

I’d also prefer HDMI over the Display Port, but that is just easier to handle with Thunderbolt 3, and all other major hubs opt for the same interface, so it isn’t something exclusive to CalDigit.

Wrap up

I find myself squarely in the “fan” column when it comes to the CalDigit TS3. It is overly robust, with nearly all the ports I could use. I’m sure if I was to get granular, I could nitpick things all day, but when the device itself is so solid, nitpick is all you can do.

If the iTunes app is not opening in Windows 11, it’s most likely a bug in the currently installed version of the app.

To fix that, you should first try to restart iTunes, as described below.

If that doesn’t work, changing the Windows display language or reinstalling a previous version, amongst other methods, has worked for a lot of users.

Many users who have been using iTunes for quite some time have reported that it’s not opening anymore in Windows 11. Some encountered the problem after an update, while others had it out of the blue.

This makes it difficult to pinpoint the issue causing the error. But there are a bunch of methods that will help you easily fix it, no matter the cause.

So, we’ll see what you should do if iTunes is not opening in Windows 11, and we will also discuss some common causes.

Why is iTunes not launching?

From what we gather from users, a few things may stop the application from launching. Some of these include:

Bad iTunes installation – Sometimes, you may be dealing with a bad installation. In this case, you would need to get and use a fresh copy of the application.

Old or corrupted iTunes files – Corrupted files are a significant source of many Windows issues. You can expect a few problems and errors if an app file is corrupted.

Firewall or antivirus settings – Some antivirus may stop apps from opening. This is why we recommend only the most compatible antivirus applications.

Peripheral devices – Some users have highlighted that specific peripherals, especially Bluetooth and USB, may cause this problem.

Regardless of the trigger, our solutions will help if iTunes is not loading or working on Windows 11, or if it takes forever to open.

What can I do if iTunes is not opening on Windows 11? 1. Restart the iTunes app

It’s probably the most straightforward method that would fix several trivial issues behind iTunes not opening in Windows 11. So, first, try restarting the app before you proceed to the other methods here.

3. Change the system language to English

Expert tip:

4. Reinstall an older version of iTunes

If the issue lies in the current version and no update is available, you can uninstall the app and reinstall an older version of iTunes. Though this should be the last resort.

5. Use a dedicated third-party app

If nothing else has worked, don’t lose hope! There are a bunch of third-party apps that work the same way as iTunes, and some even offer a tad more features.

We recommend Tenorshare iCareFone, a dedicated app that allows you to delete stuff selectively, offers the option to create data backups, lets you quickly transfer files, and comes with a diagnostic tool to identify and eliminate issues.

⇒ Get TenorShare iCareFone

By this time you reach this part of the article, the iTunes not opening in Windows 11 error should most likely be eliminated. In case it persists, you can try performing a system restore.

Also, find out what to do if Windows 11 is not recognizing your iPhone, since it too could be related to problems with the iTunes app.

Received A Bitcoin Blackmail Email? Here’s What To Do

Recently, there’s been a wave of spam emails that claim to have some dirt on you. They’ll threaten to release the data if you don’t pay up. To seal the deal, they’ll also post your email’s username and password to “prove” that they have access to your computer.

While this attack is very scary, you shouldn’t obey anything the scammers tell you. They don’t actually have any dirt on you, and they’re relying on the scare factor to get you to pay them what they want.

The Average Scam Layout

Typically, these emails lead in with a claim that the scammer has been recording you for the past few days. They’ll say that they’ve been recording your webcam feed and browsing history for the past few days. They go on to claim that they caught you performing some dirty activities and that it’d be very damaging for you if the information was leaked out.

They’ll then ask for a sum of money, paid via Bitcoin. The scam goes on to claim that the agent has software installed on your PC that detects when the email was opened and that you have a certain amount of days after opening it to deliver the money, else the hacker will release the data.

This sounds very scary, and it’s a nasty financial hit for the people who fall for it. Of course, there is no dirty data on you, and the scammer is making all of this up. If this is true, however, then how can the scammer reveal the username and password for your email address?

Faking the Scam Getting the Details

While the scammers don’t do any hacking themselves, they do depend on someone else who has hacked in the past!

You may have heard about website database leaks that have occurred around the Internet. This is when websites are breached and hackers gain access to the user database, full of usernames and passwords. Sometimes these details will contain the user’s email address. Sometimes the username is the email address! Either way, the leak will give the scammer two things; an email address and a password.

Using the Details

Of course, this password may not strictly be the same one that the victim actually uses for their email address. The scammer has to take a gamble and consider the fact that users typically reuse the same password over all their accounts.

They then take the email address and the password from the data leak and send an email to that address claiming they have the victim’s login details, revealing the password they got from the leak as “proof.”

Of course, if you have different passwords for each site, you’ll be able to see through this scam easily. You may even be able to tell what site the scammer got the password from. If you use the same password for every website, however, this scam can cause a real scare!

What to Do Next

If this does happen to you, delete the email and change your email’s password immediately! It means your login details are currently out on the Internet for all to see, so it’s only a matter of time before an actual hacker gains access to your account.

You can check which of your accounts have been leaked on Have I Been Pwned? This site is dedicated to collecting database leaks and informing victims when their details are compromised. You can enter your details into this site and see if you’ve been hit. You can also sign up for automatic alerts as soon as your details are hit.

Evil Emails

While Bitcoin blackmail emails are very scary, rest assured that the scammer holds no embarrassing data on you. They do, however, have your email address and password; if they managed to “guess” your login credentials correctly, it’s time to change your passwords, and probably use a password manager, too.

How good are your password habits? Let us know below.
